BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the overall fiscal management and accountability for the organization in compliance with the audit requirements. Maintain fiscal control, monitor and manage cash flow, coordinate annual audit, ensure compliance with Federal and State requirements.
- Oversee all grants and contracts, administration cost pool, over expenditures, under expenditures per budget line items and overall budgets.
- Oversee the corporation wide property/liability/auto/workers’ compensation insurance policy to ensure adequate coverage, which limits Kawerak’s exposure to loss and compliance with grant, and contract requirements.
- Oversee Kawerak internal financial and information technology systems and make recommendations to streamline and improve as necessary.
- Implement financial strategy for Kawerak including long term planning and forecasting, risk management, pension and investment management
- Negotiate the corporation’s indirect rate with the cognizant federal agency.
- Responsible for overseeing the routine accounting tasks such as payroll, bills and reports are completed accurately and on a timely basis; the purchase order system is used properly; and the accounting cycle is closed out on a timely basis.
- Oversee the electronic routing of contracts, leases, MOU/MOAs and electronic filing of same.
- Oversee the procurement of capital assets including, but not limited to real estate, major equipment and vehicles property and vehicle rental/leases and service purchases.
- Provide supervision and direction to the Information Systems Director, Controller-Payables, Controller-Revenues, Audit and Compliance Director. Conduct staff evaluations on an annual basis and as necessary. Provide hiring and firing recommendations to the President.
- Present financial reports to the Kawerak Board of Directors on a regularly scheduled basis. Manage the Audit and Investment Committee. Serve as a Retirement Plan Trustee.
- Occasionally attend evening meetings or meetings out of town which require travel during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Act in the absence of the Kawerak President.
- Other duties as assigned by the Kawerak President.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, plus four (4) years supervisory work experience in the field. CPA preferred. Supervisory work experience in the field of accounting may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.
- Four years’ experience working with a non-profit organization.
- Must possess knowledge of computerized accounting systems (Sage Intacct, SAP Concur, Electronic HRIS/Timekeeping/Payroll system preferred), and skills in Internet usage, , Microsoft 365 including Office 365 and Teams.
- This position is subject to requirements regarding criminal and civil child protection history established by Kawerak as incorporated from the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act AS 47.05.310-47.05.390, 7 AAC 10,900-10.990
- A background check clearance required. Kawerak’s requirements based on Alaska Barrier Crimes Act requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
