Discovery Schools seeks an experienced Chief Financial Officer to support our growing organization. This position is a member of the executive administration team responsible for financial leadership including forecasting, budgeting, accounting operations, audit, compliance, and financial reporting. The Chief Financial Officer reports to the CEO, and oversees the Business Office, HR, Payroll, IT and Operations.
Discovery Health Sciences Schools opened in Jefferson Parish in 2013 as a health sciences focused charter school created to give families choice in public education. Discovery is now a growing Charter Management Network serving over 3,000 public school students (PK - 12) and their families in Jefferson Parish and Baton Rouge. Discovery prides itself on its excellent academic record, strong school culture, and good financial standing. Discovery Schools is a $50M+ organization with future growth planned. Discovery has built 2 new campuses in Jefferson Parish and done extensive renovations on other campuses. The organization has approximately 400 employees.
Essential Responsibilities
- Analyzes financial data to create budget forecasting services that support a growing organization.
- Manages the budgeting process.
- Develops, implements, and assures compliance with current and future financial policies and procedures
- Oversees the preparation of financial statements and reports
- Serves as a member of the Executive Administration Team with the CEO and CAO providing Board members with information in regard to current and future financial decision-making
- Communicate timely and accurate financial information to leadership team and Board of Directors
- Ensures compliance with all financial regulations and laws
- Implements an effective cash management and investment strategy
- Exhibits leadership skills that mentor Business Office department leaders encouraging their growth and expertise as Discovery scales.
- Creates and maintains a positive working relationship with our primary partners that help provide opportunities for our families and our organization.
- Develops and grows relationships with shared interest partners, including banks, auditors, and vendors
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field with CPA certification OR
- Masters in Business Administration
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in finance or accounting
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations and laws
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in a charter school environment is preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft and Google suite of products and other financial software including Blackbaud.
