The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, is seeking a visionary and experienced Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (CCMO) to lead our efforts to promote and enhance the Academy’s and the profession’s reputation and brand.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
COMMUNICATIONS -
- Develop and execute integrated communication and public relations strategies that promote and enhance the Academy’s and the profession’s reputation and brand.
- Offer strategic communications advice and, as appropriate, direction to the President, CEO, and other Academy leaders, including securing impactful speaking and presentation opportunities.
- Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders on communications matters and proactively identify potential issues that may impact the organization.
- Guarantee uniform delivery of the Academy’s brand profile and core messaging across all channels; work collaboratively with Academy departments to ensure cohesive messaging and transparent communication of business goals, strategies, and outcomes.
- Ensure collection of marketing-related data in alignment with the organizational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and employ data and analytics to shape communication strategies and assess their impact.
- Manage and refine Academy’s website content strategy and administration.
- Oversee Academy’s digital marketing strategies, including social media.
- Lead Academy’s strategic communications team, including but not limited to growing brand profile, managing core messaging, and addressing brand and reputation-related challenges.
- Boost the Academy’s profile and reputation, positioning registered dietitians as the expert voice of nutrition.
- Create and implement comprehensive Communications and Marketing strategies targeting diverse audiences and markets.
- Direct digital marketing efforts, encompassing social media, website, email, and mobile platforms.
- Participate in executive leadership discussions and decision-making processes.
- Generate revenue by increasing sales through successful marketing for the entire organization, using market research, pricing, product marketing, marketing communications, advertising, and public relations. Define marketing strategies to support the company’s overall strategies and objectives
- Develop a strategic marketing plan for the department and oversee its day-to-day implementation
- Build a solid network of strategic partnerships
- Manage consultant, vendor and facility contracts.
- Mentor and guide the Academy’s Communications and Marketing staff.
- At least 10-15 years of senior-level experience in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or related field; master’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.
- Demonstrated skill in communications strategy and tactics, including brand building and reputation management along with track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans.
- Strong networking abilities, analytical mindset, and innovative approach to communications.
- Prior experience interacting with national media and extensive contacts with national media or local media in certain major markets (e.g., Washington, D.C.).
- In-depth understanding of the industry the Academy operates in, including competitors, market trends, and regulatory environment.
- Capability to provide effective counsel to CEO, Board of Directors and senior executives and act as a trusted advisor.
- Adept at managing confidential and sensitive information.
- Ability to proactively position/pitch the Academy and its leaders to media outlets while effectively utilizing new and emerging media technologies.
- Excellent collaborative, coaching, and advising skills, with the confidence to interact with high-level executives.
- Advocacy for robust internal communications, recognizing its influence on employee engagement and productivity.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with industry partners, media, and other stakeholders.
- Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface and engage with Board of Directors, members, and staff.
- Excellent management skills and experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of Communications and Marketing specialists.
- Excellent and persuasive communicator who is energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively impact internal and external audiences.
