Job description

General Responsibilities:

The Chief Clinical Officer is responsible for the implementation of the Melmark Behavior Intervention Strategies: Policies and Procedures and overall all clinical services across Massachusetts, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. This position will oversee the current clinical manual and will be responsible for the implementation of the procedures within the manual. The CCO will work with the EVP of Clinical Services in future adaptations. In addition, the Chief Clinical Officer will work in tandem with the Executive Vice President to ensure that all requirements are met for senior management staff to acquire and maintain clinical standards of excellence. He/she is responsible for the clinical supervision, evaluation and discipline of all senior management staff.

The Chief Clinical Officer must be able to develop programs from the ground up, including the hiring, training and supervision of new staff. The Chief Clinical Officer works with the Executive Directors to obtain appropriate licensure for school and residential services including obtaining approval from state agencies. The employee must have senior level clinical skills and the ability to attend to numerous details and understand multiple regulatory standards. The position will require flexible hours.

The position of Chief Clinical Officer requires this employee to have skills in working with children and young adults who exhibit life-threatening behavior disorders. The employee must have experience working with students who have had multiple treatment failures and/or the treatment history use of aversives, mechanical and chemical restraint as clinical interventions. This individual must be willing to work directly with students who display intense aggressive and self-injurious behaviors.

The position requires the individual to adhere to the Behavior Analyst Certification Board Guidelines for Responsible Conduct for Behavior Analysts and to the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (2002).

Basic Qualifications:

Education/Training: Doctoral degree in Psychology, Special Education or ABA preferred. Minimum of Master’s Degree with 20 years of applied experience.

Certifications/Licensure: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification required. A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status. Must meet Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check requirements. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, and Melmark’s Orientation Program and New Hire Onsite training program.

Skill(s): Knowledge of regulatory standards for licensing regulations. Strong background in applied behavior analysis, clinical application of applied behavior analysis with individuals with acquired brain injury, intellectual/developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. Strong experience working with individuals with significant challenging behaviors. Experience with research design and methods.

Experience: Minimum of fifteen to twenty (15-20) years of experience in clinical service delivery and supervision within public or approved private school settings and in implementing evidence-based procedures for individuals with developmental disabilities, autism and challenging behaviors. Minimum of ten to fifteen (10-15) years’ experience in program management, supervising and training staff, skills in human resources, budget management and running residential, educational or clinical systems.

Interrelationships: Works cooperatively with all members of the multidisciplinary team (Nursing Services, Vocational Services, Clinical Services, Residential Staff, Allied Health Services) to ensure that each student’s educational
