An innovative role to create new ideas and solutions to grow fund development and communication throughout New York State. Develop relationships and leverage resources to build capacity to advance our work and mission while securing revenue for the organization.

Provides leadership and strategic oversight of the Development and Marketing departments. This position holds responsibility for fundraising, strategic development planning and initiatives, and strategic marketing and communications. This position reports directly to the CEO, supporting the overall mission, strategic vision, and goals.

Primary Functions:

  • Participates with the CEO and members of the Executive Leadership Team in guiding the strategic direction of the organization. Acts as advisor to the CEO as it relates to high level community relations, including media, crisis communication, press conferences and other types of events.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive long-term institutional advancement strategy and annual operational plans in the areas of marketing, events, community and business partnerships, and development.
  • Guides the work of the Development and Marketing departments, providing an integrated approach to marketing, events, community and business partnerships, and development. Supervises all Development and Strategic Marketing staff. Develop internal and external marketing and communications.
  • Leads the comprehensive fundraising efforts in aligning activities with the organization’s strategic goals, directions, and resource needs. Responsible for a comprehensive major gifts program that supports the key strategic needs of all affiliates and ensures alignment with donor needs and gift vehicles. Leads and engages in all aspects of the gift cycle, including prospect research and analysis, initiating contacts, developing and implementing cultivation strategies, moving prospects toward solicitation, soliciting gifts, and practicing effective stewardship. Develops an overall donor strategy and manages a full portfolio of prospects.
  • Provides management guidance to the Board of Directors, including designing and implementing orientations and planning retreats and actively and strategically seeking new board members participate in the fundraising efforts.
  • Oversees communications planning and implementation, in cooperation with key stakeholders. Building and maintaining media relations and overseeing content creation, review, edit and providing feedback on materials from staff. Oversees and directs the use of various media strategies including social media, print, radio, TV and other methods.
  • Conducts periodic needs assessments for determining priorities for development support and makes funding recommendations to the Board.
  • Evaluate current activities, make recommendations for alignment, and introduce high impact experiences for both engagement and revenue generation. Manage budgets and revenue forecasting.
  • Commitment to understanding and building diversity, equity, and inclusion in our work, in our teams, and amongst programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee all community relations including public, marketing, branding, publications, website and social media.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in management, marketing, public relations, or a related area.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully collaborating and engaging with C-suite executives and/or presidents to drive strategic initiatives and achieve organizational goals.
  • 12+ years of management experience in areas such as goal setting and accountability, delegation and evaluation, budget planning and management, and an understanding and appreciation of the strategic uses of all resources, advancement, or philanthropy/fundraising.
  • Capacity to build a robust advancement operation to include strategic marketing, major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, and grants management.
  • Knowledge of and experience with identification, engagement, cultivation, solicitations, and stewardship of donor and donor prospect strategies and techniques; and an understanding of managing capital and comprehensive campaigns, major planned and annual giving programs, as well as marketing, outreach, and development.
  • Extensive experience spanning 12+ years working within the dynamic New York media landscape, demonstrating a deep understanding of the intricacies and nuances of the media landscape in the region.
  • Extensive and proven expertise in navigating multicultural markets and a deep understanding of the diverse markets, with 12+ years of experience developing and implementing targeted strategies to effectively engage and resonate with diverse audiences.
  • 12+ years of experience in the communications field, encompassing strategic planning, message development, media relations, and effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Minimum of 12+ years of experience in planning, developing, and implementing marketing and branding campaigns, showcasing a proven track record of driving substantial growth and enhancing brand visibility.
  • Familiarity with state and federal reporting requirements and laws pertaining to non-profit development.
  • Proficient in utilizing data-driven insights and employing a date-based decision-making approach to evaluate initiatives, inform strategic choices, and drive effective decision-making processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in non-profit management, marketing, public relations, or a related area.
  • A CFRE credential
  • Experience in managing and developing a non-profit board of directors.
  • A forward thinker who fosters new ideas, approaches and solutions
  • Highly skilled in project leadership while working with cross functional teams.
