Introduction 

The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) provides oversight to a multi-state, single-purpose, nursing college with responsibility for overseeing and directing the academic programs. The CAO exemplifies the Galen culture and fosters a College-wide commitment to student success; diversity equity and inclusion; achieving the expected academic outcomes; integrates and achieves balance among the College’s multiple goals; and facilitates and advances the academic vision of the faculty and the College. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CAO interacts with and presents to the Board of Directors.

 

Position Responsibilities

Essential Duties

  1. Responsible for the College-wide academic leadership, policy, curriculum, academic department personnel management, budget planning, and fiscal management.
  2. Provide leadership to meet College-wide expected levels of achievement for NCLEX pass rates, completion rates, and student and faculty satisfaction by program.
  3. Provide leadership in matters of academic policy and administration and regularly advise the CEO on these matters.
  4. Creates an environment to foster diversity, equity and inclusion
  5. Ability to understand the macro trends impacting the nursing profession to ensure the appropriate strategies are reflected in the College’s strategic plan.
  6. Ensure the effective implementation of continuous quality improvement of the academic programs.
  7. Build agile academic programs and student services that advance the mission of the College and are responsive to the needs of a changing healthcare environment.
  8. Maintain the successful continuation of the College’s accreditation status and ensure the accurate, effective, and timely communication with all accreditors and state boards of nursing.
  9. Hire, supervise, direct, and evaluate the performance of the College’s academic staff.
  10. Collaborate with College leadership, including operations, human resources, information technology, facilities management, safety, and security to ensure the delivery of a safe, positive, effective, and efficient learning environment.
  11. Represent the College to external constituencies as determined by the CEO and in College functions.
  12. Champion cultural and organizational change across the College to ensure the implementation of a unified College vision.
  13. Work collaboratively with academic leaders, faculty, administrators, and staff to provide a student-centered and rigorous teaching and learning environment from the classroom to an effective array of student support services.
  14. Ensure that all elements necessary for a quality teaching and learning environment are successfully implemented.
  15. Perform other duties as directed by the CEO.

Physical/Mental Demands and Work Environment: Position requires mental activity, reading, planning, preparing, evaluating, and decision making. Physical demands in classroom and office are minimal and considered sedentary work with occasional lifting and/or carrying such articles as records, files, and books (10 pounds maximum). Operation of standard office equipment such as phone, computer, classroom projector, Scantron, and printer/scanner, occurs on a frequent basis. Physical demands in the clinical area may include lifting, pulling, pushing, kneeling, stooping, crouching and bending or any other related activity.

Degree of Supervision: Minimal.
