- Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures;
- Compiles with the laboratory's prescribed safety rules and regulations;
- Researches, develops, and validates new methods as prescribed by the EPA & CA Department of Public Health;
- Undertakes special training for new procedures and assists in the development of procedure manuals;
- Oversees the training and work of the laboratory assistant in processing environmental samples;
- Performs preventive maintenance and troubleshooting procedures on equipment and instruments;
- Enters patient information and test results in automated laboratory data systems;
- Must be knowledgeable with methods and procedures used in the environmental lead testing Section, purpose of each test, calibration procedures, and assessment of tests and method or equipment validation;
- Provides overall supervision and maintenance of Quality Control in the Environmental Lead Testing Section of the laboratory;
- Ensures hazardous waste removal occurs on an appropriate schedule;
- Reviews raw results from analysis and any calculations or data entry required to produce final reports, prior to turning the reports over to the Quality Assurance Manager for review and release;
- Performs internal audit on a quarterly basis; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification.
- Four years of experience providing services in a specialized PUBLIC HEALTH setting, such as social work, registered nursing, nutrition, phlebotomy, physician's assistance, chemistry, clinical technology or PUBLIC HEALTH GIS.
- Academic degrees in Social Work, Public Health, Public Administration, or a closely related field may be substituted for required experience on a year-for-year basis. Copy of degree or transcripts denoting degree conferment required if qualifying with an academic degree.)
- Valid motor vehicle operator license.
- Required to obtain a California motor vehicle operator license within 6 months if out of state. DMV K4 driver license information report printout required during onboarding for California residents.)
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
- Experience working in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Bilingual skills (Khmer, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, be flexible, and manage multiple assignments in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and populations by consistently exercising tact, good judgement, and a proactive, problem-solving focused style.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to de-escalate and resolve conflicts independently and effectively.
- Proficiency in the use of computers, including email, internet, and office productivity software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
