Role Summary:
The New Philadelphia Plant Quality Chemist will demonstrate strong analytical chemistry
proficiency and project leadership skills to execute on business goals, programs, and processes
for the North America Manufacturing team. In this role, a successful candidate will utilize
experience and expertise to perform QC testing, solve problems, lead projects, develop and
execute objectives, and positively effect short-term and some long-term business goals.
The Plant Quality Chemist is responsible for ensuring the quality of products manufactured by
the New Philadelphia plant as well as addressing and resolving quality incidents. In this role, the
successful candidate will provide daily on-site support to manufacturing, oversee quality
programs and initiatives as well as provide product quality guidance to both internal and
external customers.
Essential Functions
- Consistently demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and
EHS rules/procedures.
- Plan, direct and coordinate the overall quality assurance functions for the New Philadelphia,
OH plant.
- Lead troubleshooting investigations to resolve customer and internal quality incidents.
- Direct and coordinate the overall quality for materials, processes and finished products to
meet customer requirements.
- Lead problem-solving and improvement efforts, such as analysis and re-work of off-spec or
expired inventory, process improvements, and cost-savings projects.
- Maintain and update QC lab procedures, raw material specifications and product
specifications. Propose changes to QC specs as required using corporate MOC processes.
- Provide chemical and process expertise to manufacturing plants, including batch
adjustments, troubleshooting and general quality support.
- Set up and use basic laboratory experiments and analytical equipment, including AA, Ion
Chromatography, Auto-Titrators, UV-VIS, FTIR, Viscometers, etc. Perform initial
maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation.
- Perform QC testing for active components beyond the testing capability of the plant lab.
- Calculate and communicate chemical adjustments for batches failing QC testing.
- Review off-spec, obsolete and expired inventory and make recommendations to convert
product into useable alternative products.
- Organize, perform and monitor plant laboratory equipment calibrations to ISO requirements.
- Prepare or acquire laboratory product samples in support of corporate product sample
program.
- Collect, record, analyze experiment data, communicate the status of projects and make
recommendations.
- Develop analytical procedures as needed.
- Support business ISO Quality initiatives by ensuring laboratory compliance and conducting
internal ISO audits.
- Requires cross-functional interaction and relationship including, but not limited to,
Manufacturing, Regulatory, Sourcing, Technology, EHS, Finance, Global Product
Management, Product Applications, Product Operations and the Commercial team.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field of science from an accredited college or
university.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in analytical or quality chemistry in an industrial
chemical manufacturing environment, specifically with wet chemistry sample preparation
and various titrimetric, spectroscopic and physical/gravimetric methods and AA (atomic
absorption spectroscopy) and IC (Ion Chromatography).
Desired Traits:
- Demonstrated ability to master specific chemical products/processes and analytical
equipment methods.
- Minimum of 10 years experience in process, quality, or analytical chemistry in a laboratory
environment.
- Experience with SAP data systems
- Ability to interpret and understand analytical results
- Experience with making data-driven decisions that impact quality, cost, processes, etc.
- Experience with NSF, Kosher and Food Grade registrations
- Project management skills and ability to proactively push projects forward to meet
deadlines
- Excellent technical written communication and presentation skills.

- Advanced degree in Chemistry from an accredited college or university.
