Summary: Provides recreational therapy services for under-22 individuals within Day and Residential Programming
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop programming to match each student’s IEP.
- Oversee the Adapted Physical Education/Recreational Therapy IEP student goals for assigned caseload.
- Assist the IEP team with student physical education and recreation related assessments; develops, implements and monitors students’ individualized plans.
- Attend IEP & Progress Review Meetings.
- Review IEP objectives and progress review reports for compliance with state regulations.
- Teach life skills that will transfer to for recreation, wellness, and leisure activities.
- Assist in coordinating parental/guardian consent and release forms relating to physical education/recreation activities.
- Assist in serving as liaison with representatives from related/partner community agencies.
- Act as a liaison with parents regarding IEP's.
- Create and implement measurable outcomes related to interventions.
- Develop and maintain a well-rounded Therapeutic Recreational program to meet the needs of the entire student population
- Plan, organize and lead group activities and special events
- Consult in the development of monthly residential activity calendars and oversee special events schedule.
- Attend relevant meetings, in-services, workshops as necessary.
- Perform other duties as needed or requested.
Essential Functions:
- Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job including inclement weather situations.
- Demonstrated evidence of mature judgment, good interpersonal skills, a desire to enrich individuals' lives and a willingness to learn from skilled professionals.
- Physical and mental capacity to work in stressful situations and de-escalate individuals who have limited cognition and complex need
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is an essential function of the job.
- Pass Guild Driving test to access Guild vehicles for transportations of individuals.
- The ability to implement crisis intervention techniques as necessary, including Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (via certification through CPI)
- The ability to assist individuals in evacuation from school.
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education/Therapeutic Recreation or related field
- National Certification for Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS)
- Training or experience teaching skills to a students who have mental health diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities.
- A valid driver's license
- Must meet Massachusetts DEEC Background check requirements.
- Reliable transportation to residential homes located in Massachusetts
