- Blood Collection: Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens for diagnostic testing.
- Patient Interaction: Interact with patients in a professional and compassionate manner, ensuring their comfort and understanding of the phlebotomy process.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label and handle collected specimens to maintain sample integrity. Prepare and package specimens for transportation to the laboratory.
- Quality Control: Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of collected specimens. Implement quality control measures to maintain high standards of performance.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient information, specimen collection, and other relevant data. Enter information into the laboratory information system (LIS) as required.
- Infection Control: Adhere to strict infection control practices to minimize the risk of contamination during specimen collection.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and clean phlebotomy equipment to ensure proper functionality. Report any equipment malfunctions or issues promptly.
- Continuing Education: Stay informed about developments in phlebotomy techniques, safety protocols, and relevant healthcare regulations. Participate in continuing education opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Compliance: CPTs are responsible for ensuring compliance with CA DPH regulations and adhering to the rules and regulations of the assigned hospitals and/or clinics. This encompasses maintaining licensures, participating in required training, and overseeing tasks such as retrieving medical records to uphold regulatory standards.
- California Dept. of Public Health (CDPH) License in Phlebotomy (CPT-I)
- Minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Current CPR Card issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
- Must have proof of MMR, Varicella vaccinations or titers.
- Proof of TB/PPD or Chest X-ray within the past 12 Months
- Current Annual Health Clearance
