Position Summary:
To assist the physician with WOUND CARE (bandages, cleaning, applying medication) treatment. Assuring the availability of treatment supplies and topical medications (as prescribed by the physician) and procuring supplies to assure adequate inventory at all time.
Qualifications:
Successful completion of a recognized Medical Assistant Certification program. CPR certification is required. Must have one year of clinical experience working as a Medical Assistant and training in basic medical terminology.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide a standard of excellence as it relates to customer service for patients and other customers. Maintain timely flow of patients.
- Maintain patient privacy according to HIPAA requirements.
- Prepares patient for examination with physician- aid patient in walking, standing or sitting if needed. Prepare equipment and treatment supplies to assist the physician in the treatment and examination. Perform or assist with procedures including, but not limited to bandaging, cleaning, and applying medication.
- Take and record height, weight, blood pressure, pulse rate, respiration and temperature.
- Help prepare, organize and sterilize rooms, tools and equipment, and set up equipment. Sterilize instruments and properly dispose of contaminated materials and prepare patient examination rooms and make sure rooms stay clean and neat.
- Update patient care plan under direction of physician. Order, prepare, and inspect patient charts.
- Document tests and examination results according to HealthTexas, HIPAA and compliance policies and procedures. Review patient tests and examination results with physician; documents instructions according to HealthTexas, HIPAA and compliance policies and procedures. Input and monitor EMR records of patients during exam process.
- Follow all OSHA and HIPAA regulation universal precautions to protect self and patients.

Ability to work well with clinical staff and provide quality patient care, every patient, every time. Able to effectively communicate with all others respectfully regardless of racial, ethnic or economic status. Demonstrate knowledge of electronic medical records skills and able to prioritize tasks and organize work flow.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Must be able to meet the attendance requirements of the position.
- Must be able to assist the patients in the event of an emergency.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- Must be able to stand for several hours at a time, lift, kneel and bend and be able to assist patients with standing and walking as needed.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Must be actively certified from an accredited Medical Assisting Program.
