As the largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Denton County, we are currently in need of a Certified Nurse Midwife who is seeking to provide exceptional patient care to a diverse population of patients and medical needs. As a community Health Center, we strive to "close the gap" by leveraging our clinic and community resources to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to those in the community who need us most. Focusing on continuity of care, we treat both acute and chronic conditions, including infectious disease. We also provide excellent primary medical care for children and adults with a focus on establishing a medical home for our patient's comprehensive healthcare needs.
Our healthcare providers operate at the very highest level of their expertise as they provide comprehensive, team-based care in a fast-paced environment within a non-profit, community healthcare setting. Our providers love HSNT because we treat patients from all walks of life-regardless of socio-economic status-for a wide range of acute and chronic physical, mental, and social health conditions and in collaboration with a team of medical professionals.
HSNT is seeking providers that are passionate about providing care, education, and resources in a community health setting to patients and families that have very limited options for their medical needs; and those providers that are ready to embrace the challenge of maximizing their already existing knowledge base and experience in chronic conditions.
A day in the life of our Certified Nurse Midwife may look like this:
  • Reviews initial intake, health history, and laboratory test results, performs physical examination, and designs treatment plans catered to patient's health status to provide early intervention and/or health maintenance of HSNT patients.
  • Provides additional assessments and evaluation of drug therapies and treatment regimen during routine follow-up clinic visits, ensuring patients continue to receive effective, efficient health care.
  • Maintains open consulting relationship with the physician ensure delivery of the most effective medical care.
  • Educates patients on medication regimens and drug adherence.
  • Provides ongoing medical care to patients, including medical history, evaluation, appropriate treatment for other conditions according to Public Health Service Treatment Guidelines, and give referrals to specialists for needs that exceed the scope of practice.
  • Maintain referral base of specialists to provide services for HSNT patients as needed.
  • Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA and medical center standards.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and supervision of medical care of patients to other clinical providers.
  • Provide training and orientation of new clinical providers.
  • Adhere to all HSNT and medical center policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality management studies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervising Physician and/or COO.
  • Regular in-person attendance at the medical center or assigned location for appropriate patient care.

Midwifery Specific Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Takes part in initial examination of patient, monitors course of pregnancy, advising on proper health practices, taking tests as appropriate, and reporting any complications to the obstetrician.
  • Prepares patients and their partners for delivery; trains mothers-to-be in exercise, breathing, and relaxation techniques. Provides instructions in breast-feeding if requested.
  • Attends and reassures patient throughout the course of labor, monitors the fetus condition, administers medications, notifies physician of prolonged labor or complications indicating need for possible surgical intervention.
  • Delivers infant and checks mother and child to ensure that they are responding normally.
  • During postpartum period, visits mother and child to give additional instruction in feeding and care of the newborn.
  • Conducts classes for patients and family members concerning pregnancy, delivery, and proper childcare.
  • Conducts classes for nursing students so they may assist new mothers.
  • Provides advice on family planning and performs gynecological services.

Requirements
We ask our provider candidates to possess a minimum of:
  • Education: Master level nursing degree.
  • Licensed Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant in the State of Texas.
  • Appropriate additional certifications necessary for respective scope of practice.
  • Minimum of 3-years of post-graduate clinical experience in a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant role, along with additional experience in specialty scope of practice (Midwifery/Womens Health).
  • Bilingual (medical Spanish proficiency) highly encouraged, but not required.
  • Basic EHR proficiency (we use eClinical Works).
