Job Description
Austin Area Birthing Center has provided personalized, compassionate midwifery care to thousands of clients over 35 years. We have two locations, and both are accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers. Our philosophy of care is that clients and their families should be active participants in their healthcare. With this in mind we have a strong focus on education and shared decision making throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We have been a CenteringPregnancy provider for 13 years, offer a variety of classes to our clients and the larger community, and partner with local organizations to promote a positive and supported transition to parenthood.
What to expect from this position:
- A full-time schedule of clinic and call shifts, with an average of two clinic days and two 24-hour call shifts per week
- Clinic visits include prenatal, postpartum, newborn care to 6 weeks, contraception (including IUDs and Nexplanon), annual wellness, and preconception visits
- Participation in monthly midwife meetings and case review
- Participation in at least 3 quarterly OB emergency drills per year
- Collaborating to revise clinical practice guidelines annually and more frequently as needed
- Precepting midwifery students according to your experience level
Skills:
- Training and experience appropriate for full-scope midwifery practice
- Practices according to established clinical practice guidelines and community standards of care
- Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Develops quick rapport with clients, whether in the clinic or birth room
- Provides care rooted in shared decision making
- Comfort with waterbirth and support techniques for unmedicated birth
- Experience with CenteringPregnancy a plus, but we are happy to orient you
- Constructively addresses conflict with coworkers and clients
- Shares feedback in a way that supports the growth of colleagues and the organization. Open to receiving supportive feedback
- Responds calmly and confidently in emergency situations
- Shows flexibility both in patient care and in ever-changing healthcare environment
