The Medical Coder-Outpatient assigns current international classification of disease (ICD) diagnosis codes, current procedural terminology (CPT) codes and other charges as appropriate for outpatient services based on clinical documentation. The individual will typically be working with services coded for outpatient visits, diagnostic visits, emergency department, minor procedures, homecare/hospice, dialysis, and other ancillary service records. The Medical Coder-Outpatient understands and applies applicable medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology and disease processes.
2 years of ICD-10 coding experience preferred.
Education - Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of the following courses per department procedures, within one year of hire: current international classification of diseases (ICD), health care procedure coding system (HCPCS) and medical terminology or Coding Certification.
Experience - Minimum Required: Experience working with medical records, current procedural terminology (CPT) and health care procedure coding system (HCPCS).
