The Department of OBGYN has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Certified Medical Assistant 1 to work in Miami, Fl. The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients, under the direction of a physician. Moreover, the incumbent interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts. The Medical Assistant also draws and collects blood samples from patients and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis.

• Gives injections and treatments and performs routine laboratory tests.
• Assists in patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps.
• Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.
• Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.
• Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
• Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique.
• Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.
• Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
• Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.
• Escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.
• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent
• No previous experience required.
• Graduate from an approved Medical Assistant educational program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
• Active - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant Certification from the AAMA, NHA or RMA is required.
• American Heart Association Approved BLS
• HIV Certification
• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
• Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
• Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
• Commitment to the University's core values.
• Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

• Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient's medical record.
• Assist attending physicians with In-Vitro Fertilization and inseminations
• Assist attending physicians with minor surgical procedures, annual and follow up gynecological exams such as pap-smears, cultures, endometrial biopsies and pelvic exams.
• Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
• Ability to work weekends as per schedule
• May serve as a lead to Medical Assistants or assist with their training.
• Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing).
• Knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures that are applicable to work performed (will be trained on proper disinfection of any applicable instruments and disinfecting rooms in between patients).
• Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff.
