Every employee receives a membership to all Mountain Recreation facilities.
Mountain Recreation is actively looking for certified Lifeguards for Gypsum, Co. The purpose of a Lifeguard is to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring at facilities. We are looking for fun and energetic people to join our staff year round and for the summer season at the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink, Gypsum Creek Pool and year round at the Gypsum Rec Center.
This positions requires a Lifeguard Certification through the American Red Cross or equivalent.

Salary: Part-Time Year Round; Starting: $15.97/hr

Location: Eagle County, Colorado
General Statement of Duties: Responsible for the efficient and safe operation of Mountain Recreation's aquatic facilities for the convenience and enjoyment of patrons. The work involves practicing preventative lifeguarding, the prompt performance of emergency lifesaving and first aid tasks as occasions require, provide customer service to patrons, and the care and maintenance of all equipment, pool deck, swimming pool and locker room facilities. The employee works under immediate supervision, exercising some initiative and independent judgment.
Examples of Duties:

  • Monitoring activities in and near the water through patron surveillance
  • Observes swimmers and performs rescues, CPR, AED, and First Aid when necessary.
  • Recognizing and responding quickly and effectively to all emergencies
  • Working as a team with other lifeguards, facility staff and management.
  • Communicate and enforces all rules, regulations and ordinances governing pool and pool activities to prevent accidents and maintain order, in a professional manner.
  • Preventing injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors
  • Performing opening duties, closing duties or facility safety checks and inspections
  • Always maintains a professional appearance and attitude and carries out a high level of customer service.
  • Perform various maintenance duties as needed and/or directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
  • Testing the pool water chemistry
  • Completing records and reports, as needed
  • Act as a slide dispatcher as needed and once trained
  • Attends mandatory in-services and trainings.
  • Complete a monthly swim set by supervisors
  • Ability to proficiently pass announced or unannounced Audits
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Competencies:
  • Knowledge, capability, and comfortability with American Red Cross lifeguarding, CPR, AED, and first aid skills.
  • Knowledge of municipal rules and regulations related to the use of pool area and communicates the rules and regulation effectively to staff and patrons.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Handle stressful working conditions and emergencies
  • Ability to recognize potentially harmful situations and take immediate and appropriate action.
  • Skill in the utilization of effective lifesaving methods.

Requirements
Tools and Equipment Used: Safety and rescue equipment, small hand tools for minor pool maintenance, phone/walkie - talkie, chemical test kit, pool vacuum, brushes, pressure washer, and various pool cleaning materials.
Physical demands- Must be able to see, sit, stoop, kneel, stand, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. Lifeguards must be proficient swimmers and be able to perform proper rescue and first aid techniques. This position also requires the ability to maintain focus for multiple hours at a time in sunny, hot, humid conditions.
Preferred education and experience:
1. High School Diploma or GED; OR
2. Be 15 years of age or older and currently attending school; AND
3. Previous related volunteer or work experience with aquatic safety, lifesaving and first aid; OR
4. Any satisfactory combination of experience and training.
Certification:
1. American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required in;
a. Shallow Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED; OR
b. Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
2. Ability to pass the Mountain Recreation Lifeguard Skills Test
Supervision Required: Works under the general supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor, Aquatics Coordinator, Seasonal Pool Supervisor and Facility Supervisor.
Work Environment: Duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include working in extreme weather conditions (warm and humid indoor conditions to cool outdoor conditions) and ongoing exposure to sun and pool chemicals such as chlorine. Work schedule is varied and may require evenings, weekends and holidays. Hours vary depending upon specific program needs. The flow of work and character of duties involve a high degree of mental and visual attention much or all of the time. Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling and kneeling in order to conduct extractions and deliver basic first aid/life support and to deliver and move equipment and supplies. Job stress may include dealing with crowds, uncooperative participants, difficult individuals, emergency response, sun exposure to illness and periods of continuous demand.

  • Realizar otras tareas que se le asignen

Habilidades:
  • Contar con el conocimiento, la capacidad y la comodidad de las destrezas que debe tener todo salvavidas: RCP, DEA y primeros auxilios de la Cruz Roja Americana.
  • Tener conocimiento de las normas y reglamentos municipales relacionados con el uso del área de la piscina y comunicar las normas y reglamentos de manera efectiva al personal y los clientes.
  • Contar con habilidad para establecer y mantener relaciones laborales efectivas con otros empleados y el público.
  • Manejar condiciones de trabajo estresantes y emergencias
  • Tener la habilidad para reconocer situaciones potencialmente dañinas y tomar acción inmediata y apropiada.
  • Saber realizar métodos efectivos de salvamento.

Herramientas y equipos utilizados: Equipo de seguridad y rescate, herramientas manuales pequeñas para mantenimiento menor de piscinas, teléfono/walkie-talkie, kit de prueba química, aspiradora de piscina, cepillos, lavadora a presión y varios materiales de limpieza de piscinas.,
Exigencias físicas- debe poder ver, sentarse, agacharse, arrodillarse, pararse, comunicarse, alcanzar y manipular objetos. Los salvavidas deben ser nadadores competentes y ser capaces de realizar técnicas adecuadas de rescate y primeros auxilios. Esta posición también requiere la capacidad de mantener el enfoque durante varias horas a la vez en condiciones soleadas, cálidas y húmedas.
Preferencias en Educación y experiencia:
1. High School Diploma or GED; OR
2. Diploma de escuela secundaria o el certificado de Desarrollo Educativo General (GED, por sus siglas en inglés); O
