Head Lifeguard
Job Summary: A Head Lifeguard provides lead supervision for lifeguards, monitors activities at the pool, and functions as a lifeguard. Gives instructions in pool operating procedures, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters. Conducts safety checks of facility and continued in-service training for staff. This position will perform a variety of poolside and water safety duties as needed to ensure safe use of the pool facilities. Assists with scheduling of pool staff. Carefully monitors water activities to ensure safety and prevent accident or injury to patrons. Enforces pool and other Ranch House rules and regulations. Executes other hospitality related duties. The Head Lifeguard has the opportunity to teach swim lessons as well.
Core Competency Areas and Qualifications: Must be an accomplished swimmer. Must have some knowledge of the rules and regulations of aquatics facilities; water safety practices, rules and guidelines; first aid, CPR, and lifeguard certification. Must demonstrate the ability to work courteously and effectively with other employees, and the public; sound judgement; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Professional Licensure, Certifications, or Professional Standards: First Aid/CPR certification; Lifeguard certification required prior to starting. Training will be provided or reimbursed. A minimum of 1 year of previous lifeguarding experience required, 2 years preferred.
Specific Demands: This work is primarily performed in and around an outdoor pool. This position must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, including but not limited to handling equipment and supplies related lifeguarding and pool management, strength and swimming skills sufficient to conduct a water rescue; strength and ability to provide necessary first aid and CPR assistance; vision and hearing skills sufficient to effectively monitor the pool area. This position may require long periods of standing or sitting, and working outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions. This position will also work as a slide attendant and in our snack bar when necessary. You may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Status: Hourly employee, non-exempt, Employment-at-Will
Hourly Range: $18-$24/hour DOE
Benefits: Eligible for a Ranch House membership. This position is not health benefits-eligible.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Lifeguarding a) Observe patron activities in and around the pool; maintain constant alertness and awareness of patron activities to minimize exposure to accidents. b) Always enforce water safety rules for all pool patrons c) Enforce Ranch House rules d) Act as a slide attendant: ensuring safe usage of the slide is enforced. e) Perform first aid, CPR, water rescue or other emergency response activities as needed.
Supervisor Duties a) Orients lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities. b) Schedules, coordinates and conducts in-service training. c) Assists with the scheduling of lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas are maintained during operating hours. d) Ensures that lifeguards perform in accordance with established safety regulations and policies. e) Interfaces with members and guests regarding concerns, problems, or any other significant issues.
Customer Service a) Represents RVR in a positive way at all times. b) Responds to questions and requests in a very prompt and professional manner c) Maintain cooperative and productive working relationships; complete work as assigned and within the designated time frames d) Looks for opportunities to ‘go the extra mile’ for our community members and guests
Housekeeping Duties a) Provide general upkeep of the pool and pool deck area including picking up towels, trash and other items; straightening up pool deck furniture; placing lost items in the Lost and Found area b) Helping with laundering and restocking of towels c) Other tasks as requested by management
Snack Bar Duties a) Prepare, sell, and distribute food and beverages for homeowners and guests. b) Follow safe food handling requirements c) Keep food and beverage areas clean and tidy d) Provide excellent customer service to all members and guests
Training and Development a) Prepare and conduct in-service and other training sessions as scheduled.
General Duties a) Maintain a positive and professional relationship with all RVRMA staff, and Community members. b) Contribute to an atmosphere of ‘continuous improvement’ c) Enforce all the facility’s rules, regulations or policies d) Maintain the highest standards of ethics in all duties and interactions e) Attend Ranch House staff or team meetings as scheduled f) Must be punctual and reliable

Expected hours: 16 – 40 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Weekends as needed
