The lifeguard is responsible for upholding safety rules, Y policies, accident prevention and emergency response at YMCA pools.

Job Responsibilities
· All lifeguards must remain physically and mentally alert, taking a proactive approach to searching for distressed swimmers and hazards.
· Successfully communicate with youth and adults to enforce rules and schedules.
· Give clear directions in case of emergency.
· Keep schedule availability up to date. Report for duty with proper with proper lifeguarding uniform.
· Activate EAP when necessary.
· Maintain safety of pool environment by removing any hazards that could lead to injury in and around the pool and pool deck.
· Maintain chemical logs.
· Mandatory in-service training attendance required.
· Lifeguards must remain physically capable of completing the prerequisite swim test as prescribed by the American Red Cross to ensure ability to respond to emergencies.
Education/Experience Required
· Must be at least 15 years of age. (16 preferred)
Training/Certifications Required
· Certified Lifeguard Redcross Certification with O2.
· OSHA Blood-borne Pathogens training.
· Mandated Reporter training.
· Sexual Harassment and Discrimination training.
Working Conditions
· Works indoors in adequate workspace with adequate temperatures, ventilation and lighting.
· Works with average exposure to noise and disruptions. Works with above average stress.
· Normal exposure to Chlorinated environment.
· Subject periodically to irate individuals and stressful situations.
Physical and Mental Conditions
· Must be able to see, hear and verbally respond.
· Required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, and hear.
· Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
· Light to medium work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with weights up to 75 pounds.
· Must be able to cope with the physical and mental stress of the position.
· Must be able to endure long periods of work without a break.

Pay: $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
