Description
The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Recycling, Sustainability and student government. The AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.
The Associated Students is now hiring for the position of CDL Student Teacher Assistant. This is a part-time, non-benefited student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The position will begin working in August of 2023. The pay rate is $15.50 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at CSU, Chico with at least 6 units (undergraduate student) or 4 units (graduate student).

Child Development Laboratory (CDL)
Student Teacher Assistant for Fall Semester, 2023
SUMMARY
Assist the program in providing a developmentally appropriate environment and curriculum. Develop and maintain positive reciprocal relationships with children and families. Work collaboratively with other staff members in promoting a positive work environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist in the development and implementation of evidence-based curriculum and programming in accordance with the Child Development Lab mission and goals.
  • Function as a collaborative team-teacher, providing instruction, supervision and coaching to student interns and volunteers.
  • Collect evidence that documents children's learning and development across domain.
  • Collaboratively reflect on written observations of children and contribute to the process of planning weekly outcomes for children's development and learning.
  • Provide leadership and serve as a role model of appropriate early childhood practices and teaching techniques for student interns, observers, volunteers and families.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities as assigned.
  • Assume authority when assigned.
  • Communicate Child Development Lab philosophy and program policy with families, student interns and volunteers.
  • Assist in facilitating family programs, events and community outreach.
  • Share information and observations regarding children's daily activities, progress, and development with families.
  • Identify and report suspected child abuse and neglect to appropriate authorities.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a classroom environment; exposure contagious diseases and blood borne pathogens; continuous contact with staff, campus community, and public.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Stand and walk for extended periods; kneeling and bending; sit at children's level for extended periods; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; stamina; lift, move, and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds; verbal and written communication. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, procedures of Child Development Lab operations, programs and services.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and education.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations related to Child Development Lab operation, programs, and services.
  • Knowledge of facility sanitation and safety.
  • Knowledge of pediatric CPR and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Knowledge of signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect.
  • Ability to ensure that the needs of children, families, staff and program are effectively addressed.
  • Ability to collaboratively develop and implement curriculum responses.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the children, families, co-workers, campus community, general public and those contacted during the course of work.
  • Ability to advocate for young children and families.
  • Ability to value the knowledge and research that informs best practice for early childhood education and child development
  • Ability to maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Ability to maintain currency of best practice in the field of Early Childhood Education.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
None
Preferred Requirements:
  • Some experience working with children in an individual or group environment.
  • 12 units in Child Development/Early Education, including infant toddler units preferred.
  • Current Pediatric CPR & First Aid preferred.

Special Requirements:
  • Tuberculosis, MMR and Tdap clearance.
  • Post-offer, pre-employment physical required.
  • Department of Justice and FBI background clearance or have a successful transfer of licensing exemption and a successful licensing record.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current Associated Students employees who apply for the position.
  • Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units (undergraduate) or 4 units (graduate student) at California State University, Chico.
