Job summary
The Route Supervisor is responsible for assisting the management team in the daily operation of the daily campus shuttle operations. The supervisor is direct contact with the drivers during their shift and oversee the routes to ensure the service is operating safely and per the schedule.
Role and Responsibilities
- Safety
- Utilizing Fleet Camera and Monitoring System:
- All cameras installed and working properly
- 100% completion of all pre-trip and post-trips and reasonableness
- Assign any unassigned trips
- Drug Testing
- Reasonable Suspicion, Random and Post Accident Testing
- Reasonable Suspicion Training & Implementation
- HOS
- DVIRs
- Operations
- Dispatch vehicles if needed to cover for breakdowns, accidents, etc.
- Ensure all routes are covered daily, holiday and campus closure planning
- Emergency Operations Management due to natural disasters, etc.
- Driver scheduling
- Prepare schedules ensuring minimal overtime
- Ensure driver schedule allows drivers the mandated 8 hours off and does not exceed 10 hours of driving or 15 hours of on duty time
- Facilitate breaks for driving team
- Monitor buses on campus – both by using GPS (as available) and direct observation of service on campus
- Monitor conditions on campus that may require rerouting, notify appropriate parties
- Monitor driver performance – using (Fleet Tracking Systems) and ride-alongs with drivers to monitor safety and customer service
- Drive as needed to ensure adequate coverage
- Complete Lost Hours Sheet Daily
- Fleet Inspections – ensure fleet adheres to corporate standards, per inspection sheets
- Accidents/Incidents
- Report to scene
- Call and notify supervisor and/or claims if serious event
- Complete accident report, complete required testing
- Cover shift
- Coordinate post-accident remedial training as required
- Train and hire driver) to ensure adequate staffing to meet service requirements
- Orientation
- ADA/wheelchair lift training and certifiication, as applicable
- Customer service training
- Safe driving coaching
- Route training
- Follow-up or remedial training if needed
- Client Relationship Management
- Client requests – re-routing, additional units requested, investigation of incidents, other items not in normal daily operations
- Coordinate closely with management team on any issues, service requests, concerns
- Employee Relations
- Keep manager apprised of customer service issues – complaints, breakdowns, accidents
- Keep manager apprised of customer successes – compliments, thanks, personnel who have gone above and beyond
- Keep manager apprised of issues impacting service immediately including service – staffing, driver call-outs, vehicle issues, weather
- Respond to emails, calls and text messages in a timely manner
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Transportation or logistics experience supervising drivers
- Valid Class B CDL with air brakes and passenger endorsements
- Working knowledge of DOT and safety regulations
- Software experience with Word, Excel, and Outlook and other Internet applications
- Must pass pre-employment drug test
- Complete pre-employment background check
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
