Assists the nursing staff in maintaining the highest quality of comprehensive patient care in a manner appropriate to the age of the patient being served.
Demonstrates ability to identify potential problem situations and intervenes to prevent an adverse impact.
Tests and arms all equipment alarms and can efficiently and appropriately correct all alarm situations.
Exhibits knowledge of and performs cleaning and sterilizing procedures for dialysis and water treatment equipment according to unit protocols.
Assists in maintaining a safe, secure, and aseptic environment for all patients and personnel through compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
Administers medications necessary for hemodialysis procedures (Heparin, Xylocaine, Normal Saline only), according to established policy and under direct supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.
Maintains knowledge of and is accountable for proper documentation of all care delivered. Documentation reflects factual accuracy, correct timing, completion, and legibility.
Understands necessity for and maintains cost control in use of patient supplies and equipment.
Performs tasks delegated by the Medical Director of the Dialysis Unit according to policy and procedure.
Participates actively in the Quality Improvement Program.
Participates in staff meetings and unit inservice classes.
Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned by the Administrator/Director of Nurses, or Education Coordinator.
Maintains a professional and neat appearance with regular hygienic habits to prevent workplace offensiveness.
Completes 5 hours of renal related continuing education per year.
Contributes to the fulfillment of the Dialysis Unit’s mission of corporate compliance by demonstrated, consistent adherence to the Standards of Conduct and Compliance Plan policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Skills
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND/OR ABILITIES:
Read, speak, write, and understand English.
Physical stamina to work without restrictions as needed including, but not limited to, lifting, pulling, bending, pushing, and pulling patients and equipment.
Full range of motion and dexterity of all extremities.
Ability to function under stress, and independently problem solve,
Ability to show compassion to the patient and family.
Ability to comply with regulatory agency requirements.
Ability to follow directions from the professional staff and physicians.
Have normal color perception.
Ability to fit tested for a respirator.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OR SIMILAR QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
High school diploma or equivalent. Nationally Recognized Dialysis Technician Certification preferred.
Minimum one year dialysis experience preferred.
CPR Certification.
