The Catering Sales Manager on-site is responsible for the successful development and growth of the catering department at Famous 4th Street Delicatessen. Famous 4th Street Delicatessen is a century’s old Philadelphia landmark, specializing in serving traditional Jewish delicatessen fare – meats cured on site and bakery items prepared in house. Famous is looking for essential team members to join the staff.Overall tasks and responsibilities will include all catering sales of the event planning process from inquiry through event execution. The Catering Sales Manager will be responsible for actively selling and maintaining excellent working relationships with clients. The Catering Sales Manager will develop and grow the catering division.
- 2+ years of experience overseeing high-volume food and beverage/catering operations either within a hotel, cultural institution, or premier catering company
- Must have experience in an entrepreneurial and corporate business environment
- Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Knowledge of Jewish holidays and traditions.
- The ability to support multiple levels of catering within a very dynamic environment
- Hardworking nature, hands-on approach, and a passion for the business
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, management, vendors, and clients.
- Able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate business levels.
Direct Sales at the unit level
- Work independently toward client outreach to develop new client relationships and to initiate sales opportunities
- Complete monthly KPI’s that contribute to prospecting and outbound sales efforts
- Serves as primary contact for banquet functions to ensure all preparations have been made as detailed on Banquet Event Orders (BEO), plan and upsell and last-minute needs & changes are responded to timely.
- Seek and attend networking groups and events
- Maintain positive internal and external client relationships and liaison as necessary to ensure a consistently positive interaction
- Field incoming leads, give preliminary price quotes, negotiate, and close those sales.
- Finalize all staffing needs and party details for individually sold events.
- Collect all monies and deposits due before upcoming events
- Event Coordination support to include timing of events, assisting Captain(s) with staff assignments on-site and meeting with staff when necessary, and acting as liaison with client, kitchen, staff, and vendors.
- Create catering proposals comprising four major areas: menu, beverage, staff, and equipment rental.
- Participate, conduct client meetings/sales calls, and follow up.
- Conduct tastings as needed.
- Track lost business and lead inquiries to better understand trends in the business.
- Collaborate and coordinate with the onsite team in partnership with individual events.
Financial Performance
- Achieve the yearly sales goal set forth by your unit-level leader
- Monitor event profitability to ensure that events are sold and executed according to company standards and budget.
- Ensure that all event deposits, payments, and invoicing reflect the company policies and procedures.
- Monitor staffing levels on each event to ensure proper service standards and profitability are maintained according to budget.
- Run assigned reports to analyze the business and upcoming event calendars further
Marketing
This will be a collaborative approach with the Marketing to ensure the successful development of the brand.
- Regularly network to increase notoriety and buzz surrounding events at the venue
- Work with the marketing team in creating blitz or sales initiatives in conjunction with unit leader
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends as they evolve and share these with the team
Technical Knowledge
