Job description

The California State Lottery is seeking a collaborative, results-oriented product marketer for its Product Unit. The Product Unit is responsible for the development, management and innovation of all Lottery products.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Product, the Senior Marketing Specialist - Draw & Specialty Games is responsible for the planning and development of Draw-related and Specialty Games, including jackpot and daily games. The Senior Marketing Specialist is responsible for recommending strategic direction of product development and product mix based on analyzing research, product performance and alignment with business objectives. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong collaborative, organizational and analytical skills, as well as the ability to balance an attention to detail with the needs of a fast-moving, fluid environment.
Key duties include:
-Managing, developing and monitoring performance of the Draw and Specialty Games throughout the fiscal year, including sales analysis and strategies to meet product and sales objectives.
- Researching and evaluating the efficiency of new and future gaming trends/technology and its potential sales impact on draw and specialty products.
- Project Manager for development and design of new concepts and features for Draw and Specialty game introductions or changes.
- Acting as lead to members of the Product team.

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and is eligible for either a remote-based or office-based telework schedule. Employees must be able to report to their assigned headquarters office as needed. Travel expense to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Eligibility for telework requires employee residence in California per California Government Code Section 14200 which states: "telecommuting means the partial or total substitution of computers or telecommunication technologies, or both, for the commute to work by employees residing in California.

In fiscal year 2021-22, the California Lottery generated sales of more than $8.8 billion with over $2 billion earned for California public schools. Lottery products are sold at more than 23,000 retail locations throughout the state, from independent neighborhood shops to convenience stores, liquor stores to supermarkets, and more. Retail product offerings include an average of 52 fun and entertaining Scratchers games and several draw games, including jackpot games such as Powerball, Mega Millions, and SuperLotto Plus and daily games such as Fantasy 5 and Hot Spot.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • 4+ years product marketing, product management, brand marketing (lottery industry preferred), gaming, entertainment and/or consumer packaged goods.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking with a strong understanding and application of analysis and research.
  • Demonstrated experience as a team lead in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong ability to creatively market and present product information to a variety of audiences.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business admininistration or related field.
