Summary

The Category Manager - Business & Facility Servicesis a strategic individual contributor role within the procurement function focused on working with key stakeholders to set, execute and manage category spend strategies aimed at ensuring supply at the best overall value to HSC.  This specific role is responsible for serving as the contract manager for business, and some Facility Services, which may include information technology, finance, legal, travel and corporate credit card, janitorial, uniform and food services spend categories.  This role will serve as the business manager for the spend in these areas and have oversight and influence on the overall procurement strategy.   This individual will be responsible for building collaborative relationships with the business functions such a manufacturing, finance and engineering / maintenance.  The individual will serve as an advisor to the business on market trends, pricing and risk-mitigation.

This role is accountable for all aspects of department performance including Safety & Environment, Quality, Reliability, Production, and Productivity

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Responsible for contract and category management activities within defined areas of responsibility including graphite machined materials, critical manufacturing materials and some business services spend categories
  • Actively manages spend categories with a product line manager type of an approach continuously reviewing spend data, market data and trends, supply sources and adjusts strategies to maximize both short and long-term business objectives.
  • Works closely with the Procurement Manager, fellow Category Managers and Buyers to ensure alignment of strategies across the function and within the company.
  • Builds upstream and downstream cross-functional relationships with business functions, external partners and strategic suppliers with daily interaction with manufacturing, finance and supply chain.
  • Represents procurement on assigned strategic projects and/or initiatives for the company supporting our corporate blueprint and greenprint initiatives.

Additional Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Provide review of supply agreements and negotiate with suppliers.
  • Develop supplier relationship management (SRM) strategies for key suppliers to drive value.
  • Lead ongoing supplier performance management using supplier scorecards.
  • Drive category knowledge development and maintain category profiles for key spends.
  • Lead the ISO / IATF compliance activities for the procurement function.

Skills:

  • Category Knowledge - Advanced understanding of assigned categories, supplier situation, market drivers, local or regional impacts and overall pricing pressures. Studies the larger regional or global market situation, keeps current with market / industry news and keeps peers current with relevant information.
  • Financial Acumen - Advanced understanding manufacturing process, cost structures and cost drivers in order to help set category strategies that deliver maximum overall value to the company. Ability to propose qualified alternative sources with potential improved financial benefit.
  • Stakeholder and Cross-functional Relationships - Excel at building relationships with end-users and stakeholders for assigned categories. Viewed as a "Product Line Manager" by other functions and takes the lead on ensuring collaboration with them to gather information, review with the appropriate parties, set a strategy and execute to that strategy.
  • Systems Agility - Skilled in using multiple software systems linked to procurement buy channels or workflows to understand spend and supplier analytics.
  • Coaching & Mentoring - Openly shares knowledge with the buyers from both a teamwork or awareness perspective as well as from a development standpoint.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Office365, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, etc.

Minimum Required Work:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant business experience.
    (Procurement, Manufacturing, Commercial, Supply Chain or Engineering Roles)
  • Proven stakeholder engagement skills and/or project portfolio leadership experience.
  • Aligned experience working within or supporting a manufacturing environment.

Required Education: 

  • Bachelor's Degree Required in Business, Finance, Supply Chain or STEM
  • ISM or APICS Certification Preferred
