JOB MISSION:
Lead the art and science of merchandising from a regional business unit perspective. Develop and execute a comprehensive category merchandising strategy for the region, aligning it with the company's overarching goals and objectives bringing to life Brand-led retail and consumer 1st mindset and connecting to Region LRP. These will include but not be limited to determining and defining the regional range and marketplace capacity, forecast management, commercial input documentation, key account storytelling, system management, sales rep training, go to market planning, sku efficiency and productivity in a cross functional team that will require skill of working across boundaries. This position is based at New Balance Boston headquarters.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Run the merchandising of your assigned Business Unit
  • Lead consumer and customer insights as it relates to product feedback, also callout longer term implications of feedback
  • Directed Assortment creation for tiers and channels of distribution and refinement inclusive of clusters, ID longer term implications and needs
  • Plan creation with marketing and sales operations
  • Market and financial analytics with regional leads
  • Accountability of Business Unit based on budget/forecast
  • Direct the team in 1-3 year strategy & line planning
  • Lead & manage our tier 0/1 energy strategy & customers inclusive of collaborations as a conduit to future model lifecycles in other tiers/channels.
  • Manage merchandising staff, including training, coaching, and fostering professional development; promoting a team approach in implementing workflow efficiency

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:
  • 10+ years of industry experience preferably in footwear buying and/or merchandising
  • Thorough understanding of the lifestyle & sport industry culture, retail environment, marketplace, and competitive landscape
  • Experience with product planning, sales forecasting and working to budgets
  • Knowledge of channel segmentation & differentiation, range architecture, product assortments, concept drivers, product lifecycles, and product flow
  • Strong organizational skills; adept at managing change; clear ability to demonstrate ownership
  • Management/Leadership: excellent interpersonal skills with the desire to build lasting relationships internally and with retail partners. Ability to influence and work in a cross-matrix functional capacity
  • Ability to create and maintain analytical management tools for product merchandising, development, SKU performance, gross margin optimization and varied product / channel / tier / customer analysis
  • Computer skills including advanced Excel
  • Travel required

Flexible Work Schedule

Our North American hybrid model encourages rich in-person experiences, showcasing our commitment to teamwork and connection, while maintaining flexibility for associates. New Balance Associates currently work in office three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Our offices are fully open, and amenities are available across our North American office locations. To continue our focus on hybrid work we have introduced "Work from Anywhere" (WFA) for four weeks per calendar year. This model will help us enhance our culture while continuing to maintain elements of flexibility.
