Case Manager Refugee and Entrant Assistance Program

POSITION SUMMARY:
JFS-Greenwich seeks a Case Manager, for the refugee and entrant assistance program (REA) to provide initial resettlement case management services for recently arrived Haitian/Cuban entrants through the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR)’s Preferred Communities (PC) programs. The Case Manager provides direct resettlement services to refugees in the Fairfield County area and ensures that service provision is compliant with the underlying agreements and guidelines. This position requires fluency in Haitian Creole.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acquired comprehensive knowledge and thorough understanding of programmatic requirements for JFS-Greenwich resettlement programs, including PC REA.
- Ensures compliance with all requirements stipulated by Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) PC Guidelines.
- Conducts community outreach and coordination to both identify eligible clients as well as identify resources or organizations that can support various client needs. Receives and responds to phone and email inquiries from refugees who are seeking resettlement services; receives and responds to external partners referring for resettlement services.
- Screens refugees for eligibility for resettlement services and conducts initial assessment of needs; assigns new cases to Case Managers.
- Participates in creation of family self-sufficiency plans, and subsequent referrals, services and follow-up for refugee clients for up to 90 days.
- Collaborates with Volunteer Services staff to ensure refugee clients receive support through volunteer mentorship and in-kind donations.
- Collaborates with Community Integration staff to refer refugee clients to employment services and ensure coordination in provision of employment and case management services.
- Coordinates staff, volunteer and/or intern-led cultural orientation workshops on topics relevant for refugee clients (such as housing); develops and updates curriculum as needed; provides training, support and feedback to CO instructors.
- Ensures necessary internal referrals to PC ICM programs for services concurrent with or following the initial resettlement period.
- Coordinates disbursement of direct financial assistance to refugee clients, including maintaining comprehensive documentation (individual case file and program-level).
- Maintains caseload of direct service clients, and performs other direct services, as necessary and appropriate.
- Completes all required case management forms and compiles required case file documentation, including detailed case notes, in a timely fashion.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor in support of JFS-Greenwich organizational goals and needs.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Fluency in Creole/Haitian required.
- Undergraduate degree, or H.S diploma and relevant work experience
- Previous experience in refugee resettlement or social services required.
- Excellent writing skills; experience with reporting preferred.
- Strong oral communication skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task several urgent projects in a fast-paced environment.
