About the Position:
George Mason University, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) invites applications for a full-time Case Manager. This position will provide case management support to students in need of resources beyond the scope of the university’s counseling center. The Case Manager will also carry a small caseload of students for counseling. Uses evidence-based standards to deliver clinical care that is in accordance with policies and procedures at CAPS and licensure specific guidelines for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Our center is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5pm. This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. Free monthly CEs are offered to all clinical staff members.
Responsibilities:
Direct Clinical Service Duties
- Provide psychiatric case management for students through initial triage, referrals to campus and community resources, and follow-up to ensure that students are able to access services;
- Provide “bridging” services (e.g., brief therapeutic intervention, crisis intervention, individual counseling, etc.) if clinically appropriate while students wait to connect with additional supports;
- Coordinate and manage the flow of students requesting psychiatric services at CAPS;
- Maintains timely, complete, and accurate electronic medical record documentation in compliance with CAPS, state, and federal regulatory guidelines; and
- Carry small case load of counseling cases.
Administrative Program Planning/Committee Duties
- Provide leadership for the overall clinical case management needs of CAPS;
- Collaborate with Clinical Services Committee around case management service delivery; and
- Participates in other committees as assigned related to position responsibilities.
Supervisory/Consultation Duties
- Provide supervision as needed to trainees from a variety of mental health disciplines; and
- Provide consultation around the clinical case management for CAPS staff.
Campus Collaboration/Outreach Duties
- Serve as daytime/after-hours back-up consultant for the campus threat assessment team to help support any urgent clinical case management needs for Mason students;
- Serve as daytime/after-hours primary point of contact with contracted telehealth vendor(s); and
- Monitor student activity with contracted telehealth vendor(s) when indicated and follow-up as needed.
Other Duties
- Participate in continuing education requirements to maintain active licensure.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of mental health services based on receipt of a Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work;
- Knowledge of case management based on experience with case management, triage, and crisis response;
- Experience and skills in collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team;
- Demonstrated knowledge, ability, and skills effectively working with diverse populations; and
- Ability to provide services as an Independently licensed Professional Counselor or Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience and knowledge with collegiate mental health or similar developmental populations; and
- Knowledge gained from working in a medical or psychiatric setting.
