Reports to: Carpenter Supervisor
Purpose of Position:
Construct, erect, install or repair structures and fixtures made of wood. May also erect and pour forms, install cabinets, siding, drywall or insulation include brattice builders.
Educational Requirements:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Experience and Background:
- Minimum of two years of experience in the carpentry area at the journeyman level.
- Experience working in remote arctic environment preferred.
- Experience working in man lifts preferred.
- Must have worked in areas such as layout, reading plans, blueprints and drawings, determining material needs and specifications, finish, trim, cabinetry, metal stud fabrication, sheet metal, Formica, flooring, glass glazing and painting.
- Able to assist people with a wide variety of different backgrounds.
- Must stay calm in difficult and stressful conditions.
- Team player with good customer service, communication skills and very safe work ethics.
- Must be able to read and interpret instructions & manuals.
- Have a commitment to excellence – identify what needs to be done and take action to achieve a standard of excellence beyond job expectations.
- Ability to adapt to changing conditions and work assignments, prioritize and manage multiple assignments and tasks.

Certificates, Licenses and Requirements:
- Valid Driver License that meets ICE Services insurance criteria for driving.
- North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) Card preferred, not required.
- Ability to obtain riggers certification.
- Must pass a pre-hire drug test, breath alcohol test, occupational fitness test, computer-based testing and background check.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to lift & carry 50 pounds on regular basis, routine walking, standing, bending. There is a lack of immediate access to critical medical services as well as urban community services.
- Rotational schedule of at least 11.50 hours per day for a minimum of 21 days consecutively as required.
Essential Functions:

- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings or building plans to compile material lists and the dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
- Selects materials, prepares layout, cuts or shapes and fastens materials together.
- Erects framework for structures and lays sub-flooring.
- Builds stairs, walls, etc.
- Lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.
- Fabricates desks, cabinets, bookshelves, countertops and computer stations.
- Constructs arctic entries, installs and repairs doors and windows, lays carpet, linoleum, tile, etc.
- Setting of prefabricated buildings.
- Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates.
- May paint with spray equipment, brushes, or rollers.
- Hangs, patches, tapes, and textures sheet rock.
- May erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
- Observe safety standards and regulations.
- Attends training to maintain and/or improve certifications and skills.
- Perform other duties and work with other crafts as assigned.
