Job description

This Finish Carpenter position is located in our Plant Operations Department.

Hours:

This is a full-time benefited position, 40 hours per week. 

Starting Salary: 

Rate to be determined.

What you'll do:

  • Work as a member of our Engineering team as a skilled craftsman who performs a full range of finish carpentry duties in remodeling and new construction, with skill and precision.
  • Construct, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, metal studs and drywall, etc, using power and hand tools.
  • Work under the direction of the Facilities Director but works with the Lead Carpenter and may be asked to help with cost estimates and reports.
  • Responsible for minor construction, remodeling, maintenance, and the physical appearance of the hospital and campus buildings.
  • Perform a variety of tasks which generally involves the construction , alteration, and maintenance of the structural building,  including but not limited to erecting walls, building stairs, installing doors and windows and precision tasks, such as installing cabinets, trim work, countertops, flooring, drywall, and painting etc.
  • Have the ability to read blueprints, sketches, and measure and calculate dimensions accurately.  Assignments are normally made orally or in the form of sketches or blueprints. 

What you'll need:

  • Have a high school diploma or GED with either a college, or vocational/apprenticeship construction certification and 1 years experience, or a minimum of three years experience working in the construction field. 
  • Have working knowledge in the practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, safety and familiar with applicable building codes.
  • Demonstrate skill in the following tasks: stain-grade trim work, drywall, painting, hang doors, drill and set door hardware, set windows, layout for stairs and common rafters, ceiling and flooring installation.
  • Demonstrate mathematical and analytical skills and capable of making accurate measurements.
  • Be able to read blueprints and building sketches.
  • Have good communication skills and adept at establishing relationships with all parties involved in the construction process that facilitate harmonious working relationships during project, and permit prompt resolution of problems and conflicts as they occur.
  • Be able to read, write and understand English; and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Be able to pass a Job Function Test in our Rehab Department, and meet the physical demands of the job.
  • Have basic computer skills.
  • Have good organizational and decision making skills with the ability to set appropriate priorities.
  • Perform work with attention to detail, be flexible in work assignment and work competently in stressful situations.
