Position Overview:
As part of our onsite Danbury Facilities team, the Carpenter will be responsible for performing highly skilled carpentry tasks within our 550,000 square foot facility. This person will have the opportunity to join a cohesive Facilities team within an innovative organization dedicated to the defense of our nation.
Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be responsible for:
- All day-to-day carpentry tasks within the facility including:
- Perform alterations, repairs, and maintenance of structures and facilities.
- Perform highly skilled bench work; operating with such equipment as power saws, joiners, wood lathes, planers, boring, sanding, and mortising machines; cleans, sharpens, and repairs hand and bench tools; repairs install laminates, may cut and glaze windows.
- Performs highly skilled maintenance on equipment requiring the applications of trade skills, codes, and standard trade practices; make estimates of time, personnel, and materials.
- Read and interpret drawings and blueprints.
- Inspect completed work for conformance with requirements of local building and safety codes.
- Following all Standard Operating Procedures within a highly regulated environment.
- Working and communicating with cross functional stakeholders in a friendly, courteous manner.
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent years of experience.
Experience Required:
- Minimum 5+ years of carpentry experience.
- Basic mathematical understanding and the ability to interpret instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Must be detail oriented with a proven track record of constructive problem solving and suggestions for improvement.
- Computer proficiency with the willingness to learn new technologies.
- Ability to speak up as appropriate and escalate issues as required.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of flexibility and assist others as needed; may be called for emergencies, drive trucks or perform other maintenance work as required.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated track record related to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
The position is located onsite at our facility in Danbury, CT. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, listen to and interpret instructions, operate tools and/or machinery with hands and arms and remain stationary for extended periods of the time. The employee will use protective equipment to work with chemicals, move between work stations, reach and replace equipment, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
