Job description

Non-exempt; part-time; 24 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 8:00 - 5:00 p.m.; pro-rated benefits; grant-funded

This position provides administrative and technical support for the Division of Aging and Independence and is collaboratively responsible for the overall operation of the Caregivers Support Program. The primary focus of this program is to provide comprehensive information and assistance about services available to caregivers. Supervision is received from the Director of Resource and Service Navigation.


TOTAL COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

  • 11 days of Vacation leave with increase after 2 years of employment (pro-rated accrual rate to be determined)

  • Educate the public, community leaders, and other interested parties about resources available to caregivers and offer referrals to other agencies for assistance
  • Develop and keep updated marketing materials that inform the public about the caregivers program, including a resource guide and newsletter
  • Develop partnerships with community organizations and relevant professional service providers who can assist caregivers over 60 years of age
  • Distribute resource information and assure that all inquiries receive comprehensive and accurate reply
  • Organize and coordinate workshops, support groups, caregiver training, and respite services
  • Make presentations to the community about the services available under the caregivers support program
  • Prepare articles for publication in newsletters, local newspapers, and online
  • Interview clients in person in the office, in their homes, virtually, or on the telephone to assess their needs and concerns, provide comprehensive assistance in accessing services
  • Facilitate group training activities, including Dementia Live and Powerful Tools for Caregivers
  • Assist with implementation of county-wide initiatives, including Dementia Friendly Frederick
  • Maintain accurate records of participant contacts and follow-up to determine if services were received and satisfactory/sufficient
  • Input data into various software systems
  • Consult with legal, health or social work professionals concerning issues of participants
  • Compile and prepare reports and statistics to meet Federal, State and County reporting requirements
  • Identify possible funding sources and provide support to grant writing process
  • Operate a FCG vehicle to travel to other senior centers, client homes, and meetings with the State, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Associate's degree
  • Minimum 2 years of case management work experience in a human services program
  • Possession of a valid automobile operator's license

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
  • Knowledge of social services and social programs available in Frederick County, especially those available to older adults
  • Strong math and record-keeping skills, including the ability to accurately compile and review fiscal and statistical information and create clear, concise reports
  • Ability to work with sensitive, personal information and maintain confidentiality
  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills
  • Ability to make public presentations, speeches
  • Ability to effectively access and use computerized systems and equipment
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public, with special sensitivity to the needs and priorities of older individuals

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR:

  • Coursework in health, human services, gerontology, social services or a related field
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish
  • Experience serving the senior population

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • While working in this position, the employee is required to frequently sit, walk, reach, perform repetitive motions and drive; and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
  • While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly work indoors; and frequently work outdoors
  • Ability to provide own transportation for meetings, home visits, training sessions etc.
  • Available for varied working hours as needed to accommodate meetings and other commitments
  • May be scheduled to work during an emergency to support County operations

  3. Evaluation of a writing sample
