Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to provide companionship and supervision for our 89-year-old father who is living with dementia. The ideal candidates will play a crucial role in enhancing his daily life, ensuring he engages in social activities within a senior retirement apartment complex and that he stays socially engaged as he ages. This position requires someone with a warm and patient demeanor, commitment to consistency, and the ability to establish a reliable daily routine. We wish to establish routine caregivers for the late morning hours to mid afternoon and a routine caregivers in the afternoon -evening time hours seven days a week.
Ideal Candidate Profile: Located near Simms & Bowles in Littleton, this position may appeal to individuals who seek a rewarding role that is not physically demanding, stressful, or in a formal /corporate setting. If you enjoy activities such as doing puzzles, seated chair stretches, discussing the day's newspapers, (he has a kitchen in the apartment for your use) baking cookies on a cold day, or going for a short drive on a pretty sunny day, this might be the perfect opportunity for you.
Responsibilities: 1.Companionship and Engagement. •Provide oversight and participate in daily life events with compassionate and emotional support to our father. •Encourage and facilitate his participation in social activities offered by the retirement resort. 2.Supervision and Assistance: •Offer gentle guidance and supervision to ensure his safety and well-being. •Assist with daily activities as needed, maintaining his dignity and independence. 3.Transportation: •Accompany him to and from various activities within his retirement community. •Facilitate outings occasionally; to stores, or to nearby relatives (25 minutes away) or drives in the car on nice days or to church services. (Mileage is reimbursed) 4.Consistency and Routine: •Establish and maintain a consistent daily routine to provide stability. •Foster a familiar safe environment that is best for those with dementia. 5.Communication: •Provide regular updates on his well-being, activities, and any notable changes to the family and other caregivers to ensure continuity of care. •Complete daily documentation of visit activities.
Qualifications: 1.Previous experience in caregiving is preferable, especially with individuals living with dementia. 2.Patience, empathy and a genuine interest in enhancing the quality of life for seniors. 3.Being ‘present’ to witness life with him and deliver compassionate care. 4.Ability to adapt to the evolving needs of our father and communicate effectively with family members. Working Conditions: •There are both part-time or full-time positions open. (He has ~60 hours per week of scheduled caregivers) •We can be flexible to develop a schedule that meets the caregiver’s needs too. We respect your family time, and encourage this position to complement your life. •Flexible hours, including mid-day, or evenings 7 days a week are available. •Location is in his independent living apartment that is in the senior retirement apartment complex. This facility has many amenities (all meals available in a full service dining room, housekeepers, a full theater, exercise room, daily fun activities, happy hours, performers, etc). Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and support to individuals in their homes or assisted living facilities.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Administer medications according to prescribed schedules and document accurately.
- Assist with meal planning, preparation, and feeding.
- Perform light housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Drive clients to appointments, errands, and social outings.
- Provide companionship and engage in meaningful activities with clients.
- Monitor and report any changes in client's condition or behavior.
- Follow care plans and communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Experience:
- Previous experience in caregiving or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of home care or assisted living systems is a plus.
- Experience with dementia care is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Ability to lift and transfer clients safely using proper body mechanics.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Compassionate and patient demeanor when working with individuals who may have physical or cognitive limitations.
- Strong organizational skills to manage schedules, medication administration, and documentation.
