Open Position:                             Career Tech Instructor - Building Maintenance

General Job Description:
The instructor will be responsible for the Building Maintenance program at Upper Valley Career Center and will provide instructional activities which are consistent with the objectives of the program. The program focuses on basic carpentry & electrical skills with an emphasis on plumbing skills.  The instructor will prepare and conduct lessons for related and laboratory classes from the Construction Technologies pathway as identified in the state of Ohio content standards.  The instructor will direct the learning experiences of the students, including skill development, human relations, and leadership qualities which are necessary to obtain gainful employment in this career field.  SkillsUSA is an important part of the curriculum and the instructor will be expected to help guide the SkillsUSA program.
 
Responsibilities:
          Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Instruct classroom and laboratory classes according to the Ohio Department of Education content standards.

  • Design and implement real-world applications for the Building Maintenance students.

  • Recruit students into the Building Maintenance program.

  • Maintain an active Advisory Committee for the Building Maintenance  program.

  • Promote a positive learning environment.

  • Remain current with industry needs and remain updated with current technology and industry trends.

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
  • Must hold or qualify for certification/licensure in Construction pathway , which would include 5 years of experience in the Construction Industry

  • Must meet all the requirements governing teacher education and licensure. 

  • The instructor must be a strong team leader, possess excellent human relationship skills and serve as a role model for students.

  • Meets all mandated health screening requirements.

  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.  Able to successfully pass a  BCI/FBI background check.

  • Maintains compliance with drug-free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.


Physical Demands:
The physical demands of this position include frequent standing or walking for extended periods. The employee may occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Repetitive bending at the waist as well as kneeling, stooping, crouching to assist is also required. Employees may reach overhead as well as above the shoulders and horizontally. The employee must have manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to operate construction equipment as needed.
Salary:
Appropriate placement on the Certificated Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience.  Salary will range from $46,325.00 (Class II, Step 0,) to $77,341.00 (Class V, Step 100.  Base contract is 187 days.   Minimum workday is 7 hours per day exclusive of a lunch break .  One-year contract with opportunity for renewal.

State Teachers Retirement System, Worker's Compensation, paid sick/personal leave, partial tuition reimbursement, and tax-sheltered retirement contributions.  Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance offered. Some benefits are a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.
 
Performance Evaluation:
Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Valley Career Center.
