The Cardiac Sonographer performs routine and complexechocardiography. Prepares and positionspatient for echocardiography exam and explains procedure. Operates cardiac ultrasound, doppler andsimilar equipment to perform procedures according to physician's directive. Observes the screen during the scan to ensurea satisfactory image for diagnostic purposes making adjustments as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs routine and complex echocardiography
- Prepares patients for procedures, explains procedures topatients
- Reports changes in patient condition to medical staff
- Provides an oral and written summary of preliminary findingsto the radiologist
- Evaluates quality of sonograms and determines if additionalsonograms or ultrasound procedures are indicated
- Handles documentation of procedures as indicated by standardand facility protocol
- Collaborates in quality control of equipment, filming andobtains service as required
- Proficient in the performance of ultrasound procedures
- Ensures correct charging of ultrasound procedures andsupplies on a daily basis
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- A certification from an accredited ultrasound/sonographyschool
- One year of experience as an ultrasoundtechnician/sonographer preferred
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills;proficiency in the English language is required
- Current BLS card
- Current TB test or chest x-ray
- Current physical exam per state or contract requirements
