Canal Maintenance/Equipment Operator

JOB SUMMARY:

This position works as part of a team responsible for maintaining the water distribution system, District facilities, and District access roads of the MSIDD service area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Preventative maintenance, repair, replacement and/or enhancement/improvement for the following system features: Canal system and maintenance roads.
• Earthen berms, dikes, drainage channels and canal support embankments.
• Concrete-lined canals, laterals and related control structures.
• Manual and motor controlled gates.
• Cross drainage structures and buried pipeline facilities.
• Working with a team to maintain, enhance, and/or improve the water distribution system and all District facilities.
• Operate heavy machinery such as, but not limited to: Motor graders, backhoes, excavators, gradalls, loaders, water trucks, boom trucks, etc.
• Utilize all phases of safety in the field.
• Maintain any related training and/or certification requirements.

Preferred Experience:

• Compaction and reconstruction of earthen embankments and/or compaction of soil materials used to support concrete structures.
• Ability to read and follow grade stakes
• Preventative maintenance and minor repair of heavy equipment.
• Concrete placement and finishing.
• Welding.
