Job description

Position Summary

Note: Pay rate will increase to $12.00/hour on July 08, 2024.

Do you like working with children and have experience working with them? Have you thought about working in education or recreation? Can you provide oversight of elementary school-age children, lead them in activities, help them have fun, and make sure they are safe? Working as a Camp Counselor for Churchill County Parks and Recreation's summer day camp program, called SumFun, might be just right for you! The SumFun program is for children currently enrolled in kindergarten through 6th grade, and it offers fun & games, snacks, arts & crafts, field trips, swimming, and more. You would help plan activities for the program and then supervise the children who are participating in the program. The county is looking to hire several employees for the summer - you would typically work about 20 hours per week (or more). If selected, you would also be eligible to work during the school year as an after-school counselor, working about six to ten hours per week during the after-school program.
You would be responsible for maintaining an orderly atmosphere, using positive discipline techniques in dealing with elementary school age children, and working with children and parents on a regular basis.
Churchill County is accepting applications online at www.churchillcounty.org/careers. (Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.) The full SumFun program will start when the school year ends. Employees will likely be hired before then so they can be trained for the program.
Please be sure to include work and volunteer experience that is applicable to the position in your application. Applications will be reviewed based on the description for the position and the applicants' experience with children. Please include volunteer and babysitter experience with children. The most appropriately qualified applicants will be invited for an interview.
Number of hours worked per week will vary based on the needs of the public. There are no retirement or county health benefits. Hours are flexible to meet public needs and at times make the following conditions mandatory: shift work, split shifts, rotating work schedule and weekdays. (Employees over age 16 may be required to work 10-hour shifts as needed.)
