Cafe Team Member

Job Summary:

Tonari, located in Chinatown, is DC's first Japanese-Italian restaurant. We are seeking a motivated, personable, and guest-oriented individual to join our daytime Cafe team. The Cafe is only open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 2:30 pm. The menu features an array of coffee drinks, Italian-style ramen, Japanese rice balls, boozy brunch drinks, breakfast items, and baked goods. Candidates with barista experience are a major plus. As a Cafe Team Member, you will be responsible for providing excellent guest service, taking orders at the front register, making drinks and coffee, bussing tables, maintaining all dining areas and guest stations, ensuring a clean and organized work environment, and assisting with running drinks and food when needed. Candidates must have excellent communication skills, be able to work seamlessly in a team setting and be a strong multitasker. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with smaller teams, keeping busy, and are looking for daytime weekend hours.

Duties:

• Greet all guests with a friendly and positive attitude
• Take orders accurately and efficiently
• Be able to answer all guest questions accurately
• Prepare drinks and coffee according to company standards
• Operate cash register and handle transactions
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation behind the bar, dining areas, and bathrooms
• Upsell menu items to increase sales
• Complete all assigned opening and closing side work tasks
• Assist with locating any guests who fail to hear their name called when their order is ready
• Hand out completed takeout orders to the correct driver or guest
• Make sure all guest stations are clean and stocked before and during the shift
• Washing and polishing all used glassware, mugs, and silverware and putting them away in the appropriate areas
• Assisting with any drink prep that's needed before or during the shift using the recipes provided by the restaurant

Requirements:

• Strong time management and prioritization skills to ensure efficient service
• Enjoy engaging with people and possess a friendly, positive attitude
• Some Barista experience is preferred
• Basic math skills for cash handling and order accuracy
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Keen attention to detail
• Familiarity with Toast POS system is a plus!
• MUST be able to work well under pressure
• MUST be able to use stairs and lift objects that weight 5 lbs or more
• MUST have excellent communication skills and work well in a team
• MUST be available to work in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays
