Position Description:
SIL/HIL Core Models Engineer the Software in the loop (SIL) / Hardware in the loop (HIL) Vehicle Propulsion System Engineering (VPSE) Team is looking for a highly qualified and motivated engineer to develop vehicle propulsion system plant models applied for propulsion control system performance verification/validation use cases. The engineer will be responsible for the development and application of physics-based system level models for VPSE technologies (Electric vehicle, Hybrid electric vehicle and Internal combustion engine).
Responsibilities:
- Ideate, develop, and apply analytical system level models to support electrified vehicle propulsion system calibration use cases in SIL and HIL environments.
- Envision and create methods, tools, and processes to improve model development and deployment process robustness.
- Develop physics-based and data-driven reduced order system level models in thermal, mechanical, and electrical domain pertinent to automotive systems.
- Perform rigorous verification, correlation, and validation of developed models to ensure model fidelity, accuracy, and execution speed.
- Collaborate with SIL/HIL integration engineers to ensure models satisfy interface requirements.
- Collaborate with D&R engineers to understand system design specs and obtain needed model parameterization data.
- Collaborate with vehicle test engineers to develop instrumentation plan and obtain necessary data for model development and validation.
- Partner with R&A engineers to transfer new technology models to product development.
- Develop and document processes for robust program delivery and present work to technical forums.
Skills Required:
- 2+ years of academic/professional experience in propulsion systems development with an understanding of the calibration process.
- 2+ years of academic/professional experience developing and testing propulsion system analytical models.
- Experience with 1D system simulation tools.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Skills Preferred:
- 5+ years of propulsion systems development experience with an understanding of the calibration process.
- 5+ years of experience developing and testing propulsion system analytical models.
- Knowledge of electrified and ICE propulsion systems/components, and their operation and interactions within the system.
- Experience with powertrain and cabin thermal management system simulation.
- Experience with data driven reduced order model development using artificial neutral networks.
- Working knowledge of GPDS and calibration milestones.
- Experience with 1D system simulation tools (Dymola, Simulink, GT Suite, Amesim, Flomaster etc.)
- Experience with programming and automation (MATLAB scripts, Python etc.)
- Familiarity with version control systems like Github
Education Required:
- BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Education Preferred:
- Preferred MS/PhD in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
