In this position...

  • Utilize cutting-edge CAE techniques to proactively identify and address potential thermal inefficiency and issues in vehicle design, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.

  • Lead the way in driving design optimization and providing guidance for under hood, body, and cabin component design, shaping the future of vehicle development at Ford Motor Company.

We are looking for a seasoned CAE engineer to guide and perform full vehicle thermal analysis to support BEV vehicle program development. Deep understanding on vehicle components and operations is a must. You will partner with Thermal program, ESE battery, PTI and climate control engineers to frame the right thermal environment and influence components design/package/routings from beginning to end of Ford product development process to achieve optimum vehicle energy management and usage. With your creative and analytical mind, you will use CAE to provide key insights to detect potential thermal inefficiency and issues. Frame new opportunity, design optimization and guide under hood/body/cabin component design for our vehicle in development. You will lead, guide and oversee vehicle program CAE work throughout the process. You will relentlessly advocate a teamwork at all stages of the vehicle development process. As a team player, you will create impact by collaborating across the CAE, programs and all other key work partners throughout the company.

The Ford Thermal Systems Engineering CAE Team is committed to assist vehicle development process through CAE. Ford Thermal CAE vision is to further improve and accelerate Ford vehicle development process by utilizing latest and greatest CAE tool.

What you'll do...

  • Collaborate with program team and key work partners in the company to frame the right thermal environment for every under hood/body/cabin

  • Lead, train and guide CAE team of engineers to support and accommodate customer (thermal program team and key work partners in the company)

  • Lead and perform full vehicle transient thermal CAE models from start to finish (CAD data collection, clean up, meshing, boundary conditions setup and post processing)

  • Continuously innovate and search for CAE process improvement focusing on accuracy, efficiency, capability. CAD to results based turn around timing and cost optimization

  • Ensure high quality CAE results and solutions throughout the design process

  • Make technical recommendations on design optimization, issue resolutions and countermeasures, based on engineering judgment and interpretation of CAE results

  • Interface with Ford global team (global 1D and 3D CAE team, CAD, CAE Integration, PTI, D&R and other attributes)

  • Share and present work to program engineers and leadership

  • Document all CAE work and results as per the Ford Thermal process to ensure tasks traceability

  • Perform and support Powertrain Cooling CAE 3D air flow analysis, heat exchanger/fan sizing, heat exchanger arrangement and air flow uniformity. Assist front end opening and grill designs optimization to meet vehicle airflow and performance targets throughout vehicle development phases

  • Perform and support Traction Battery (High Voltage) 3D CAE thermal analysis by coupling exterior vehicle air flow analysis with complex 3D and /or 1D battery CAE model

  • Assist vehicle system optimization to meet vehicle airflow and battery performance targets throughout vehicle development phases

  • Perform BEV heat loss/gain analysis by coupling analytical vehicle air flow analysis with complex 3D and /or 1D CAE model. Assist vehicle system optimization to meet vehicle energy usage and performance targets throughout vehicle development phases

  • Perform Battery Cell Venting strategy through CAE. Perform vehicle air flow analysis to understand CVM gas flow and optimize design to prevent high temperature gas from reaching critical safety areas.

  • Perform cabin thermal modeling and human comfort strategy through CAE. Perform vehicle air flow analysis to understand cabin interior air flow, energy usage, human comfort rating and optimize design to optimize human comfort while keeping vehicle energy consumption to minimum.

  • Develop, design and analyze AGS, ducting and under hood hot/cold air evacuation concept and strategy by working closely with thermal program and D&R engineer

  • Develop, design and analyze vehicle energy usage. Use CAE insights to eliminate or reduce vehicle energy waste (heat gain or loss).

  • Perform CAE assessment on exterior design proposals from Studio. Support design theme selection process throughout studio design process

You'll have...

  • Master in Mechanical Engineering or higher with focus on fluid mechanics/heat transfer

  • 10+ years of experience in the field of Product Engineering

  • 10+ years of experience in using CFD and CAD tools to perform full vehicle thermal CFD analysis. Required tools: ANSA, UH3D, TAITherm, CCM+, enSight, etc.

Even better, you may have...

  • Familiarity with major OEM/Ford GPDS vehicle development process

  • Familiarity with vehicle under hood/body components (ICE, FHEV, PHEV and BEV)

  • Experience in developing CAE process optimization and automation

  • Experience working with global team environment
