Ditesco, an ESP Associates company, is a Fort Collins based program management, project management, construction management and civil engineering firm that focuses on delivering high quality services tailored to our client’s needs. Ditesco has an immediate need for a CAD Designer to join our team in Fort Collins or Loveland, CO. This is an excellent opportunity to bring your expertise to a well-known and trusted firm!

SUMMARY
The CAD Designer is an entry to mid-level position within Ditesco. This position is responsible for performing computer aided design assignments including the development of conceptual layouts, schematic design, design development, permit-level drawings, bid and construction-level drawings, sketches, maps, and graphic representations of engineering designs using AutoCAD Civil 3D. This position emphasizes design and plan set preparation of a variety of site/civil projects, including, municipal utility projects such as sanitary collection and trunk mains, water transmission and distribution, municipal broadband, roadway construction, site design and grading, and layout of easement and property boundary information. Work activities include, but are not limited to, site and utility grading, pipe networks, utility alignments, plan and profile drawings, sections, detail drawings, and as-built redline drafting for conceptual, preliminary, and final design drawings.

Supervision Received: Works under direct supervision of the Senior CAD Designer or Senior Project Manager
Supervision Exercised: Does not supervise subordinates
Job Classification: Full-time, Exempt Employee

COMPENSATION
Ditesco offers a comprehensive compensation package including health care (75% of employee and family premium paid; 100% individual); 401k, paid vacation, holidays, floating holidays, and performance-based bonuses. Salary range for this position is $50,000 to $70,000 per year; 26 pay periods.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Other duties may be assigned. Duties are varied in nature and include:

  • Provide civil engineering drafting and design services by preparing and maintaining AutoCAD Civil 3D engineering drawings that compile to create a set of permittable plans.
  • Prepare designs from general instructions and preliminary sketches, diagrams, or schematics.
  • Prepare working drawings ranging from conceptual plans and schematic drawings, design development drawings, final engineering drawings, and construction record drawings.
  • Prepare computer aided designs for a wide variety of civil engineering projects that include the following elements: geometric design, utility plan, and profile, subsurface utility engineering (SUE) plans, utility detail drawings, site grading design, cut and fill analysis, horizontal and vertical alignment, intersection layout and sight distance determination, interchange layout, roadway drainage, and right-of-way plans and other design elements as may be required by specific projects.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of CAD standards.
  • Prepare for and attend project progress meetings (design and construction) to successfully progress the project design and construction process and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Graduation from an accredited high school with a high school diploma required.
  • Special Licensing or Certification: Certification or secondary education diploma preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of increasingly responsible experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D computer aided design or equivalent software packages.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Experience in the design of site/civil, utilities, and roadway projects preferred.
  • Proficient experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D to create surfaces, alignments, and profiles.
  • Willingness to assist with a wide range of projects working with multiple engineers.
  • Work effectively on design teams and coordinate with team members including CAD technicians/designers, engineers, managers, administrative staff, and construction staff.
  • High attention to detail, good organizational and time management skills.
  • Thorough understanding of the design of roads and streets, drainage, and utility design.
  • Good written and oral communication abilities and interpersonal skills
  • Ability and desire to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with coworkers, managers, and clients.
  • Ability to ask for, and receive, additional direction and assistance when needed.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific, technical journals and legal documents. Ability to communicate with clients and the public and respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively communicate with engineers and contractors to interpret plans, specifications, and details in resolving design related issues. Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or clients. Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply mathematical concepts necessary to perform construction-level layouts, geometry and entry level civil engineering calculations as applicable to computer aided design.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily located in the office environment but may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions and uneven terrain. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud requiring appropriate hearing protection.

Travel Requirements
May be required to travel to projects greater than 50 miles from the main office location. May be required to perform work at remote job sites for varying lengths of time.
