Position Title: Business Development Officer

Status: Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: President/COO

Location: Marlborough and/or Ayer

 

Summary: The Main Street Bank Business Development Officer is responsible for generating new Commercial and Business leads with a goal of generating new money non-interest-bearing deposit accounts.  The Business Development Officer will play a key role in identifying products and services to deepen the customer relationship, ensuring we are the bank of choice for their operating accounts.  

After successful completion of training and proven abilities, this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with availability expected during core business hours and agreed upon number of days per-month on site. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:  

In the performance of respective tasks and duties, the employee is expected to successfully perform quality work within deadlines with or without supervision, interact professionally with other employees, customers, and suppliers; work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments and work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations. 

  • Responsible for generating leads, gathering deposits, creating revenue, and cross-selling Main Street Bank products that become profitable relationships. 

  • Plan for and conduct retention and Business Development calls with a focus on meeting or exceeding deposit acquisition goals and developing lasting customer relationships. 

  • Executes programs developed for retail and business customer acquisition with a focus on core deposits. 

  • Uses exceptional listening skills to present high value and cost-effective solutions to prospects. 

  • Effectively communicates the value Main Street Bank brings to customers by identifying unique selling propositions to generate customer loyalty. 

  • Represents the financial institution in public relations activities and community affairs as needed, participating in activities for generating new business. 

  • Works collaboratively across all lines of business to offer a comprehensive solution set for customers. 

  • Manages prospect relationships with a sense of urgency and exceptional customer service skills to create raving fans.   

  • Works collaboratively with our lenders and branch managers to identify opportunities to deepen and enhance the relationship. Networks effectively to generate brand awareness for Main Street Bank. 

  • Stays abreast of features and benefits of products and services to provide customers with ideal banking solutions. 

  • Identifies and shares product/service enhancement ideas to Supervisor. 

  • Manages customer complaints, feedback, and issues for effective resolution. 

  • Documents calls and provides weekly call reports to manager. 

  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of Bank’s deposit, cash management and loan products to provide customers with ideal banking solutions, delivered effectively.

  • Effectively use tools and systems to be able to self-manage, organize, and complete work independently, proactively recognizing potential obstacles resolving them before they become an issue, managing to deadlines, creating action plans when not on track, enabling job functions to happen with minimal oversite and meeting conditions of satisfaction.   

  • Adhere to all company policies, acting as a role model consistently demonstrating our core values and service standards. 

  • Keeps abreast of regulatory changes to ensure compliance in the areas of job responsibilities and recommends improvements or changes as needed for compliance and/or for department efficiency. 

  • In the performance of respective tasks and duties, the employee is expected to maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with Bank Secrecy Act regulations and adheres to compliance procedures and internal/operational risk controls in accordance with all applicable regulatory standards/requirements and policies as well as attending all required training sessions and completing all required on-line training courses. 

  • Other duties as assigned, performing similar or related work as directed, required, or as situation dictates. 

 

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY: 

  • Interacts independently under limited supervision with members of the community and along all staffing levels. 

  • Work is non-routine, requiring the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and adhere to policies and procedures that are prescribed by the bank, State and Federal regulatory agencies.  

  • Participates in executing the strategic plan to meet the bank’s overall competitive position within the financial services industry.   

  • Position has an impact on the revenue of the institution. 

 

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: 

  • Smart Phone - To enable the MFA (Multi Factor Authentication) facilitating access to MSB systems. 

 

HYBRID ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Your remote set-up must provide a dedicated workspace, free from distraction with high-speed, reliable internet is required. 

 

SKILLS REQUIRED:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing/Sales, or Communications, or equivalent combination of training and work experience. 

  • Prior Business Development and/or sales experience necessary 

  • Solid background in financial institution operating policies and procedures, Federal and state banking regulations preferred. 

  • Knowledge of CRM/Sales tools preferred 

  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 Suite products including, but not limited to Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and Sharepoint. 

  • Solid understanding and application of administration activities with an understanding of office procedures and ability to operate standard office equipment. 

  • Means and mode to travel to any of Main Street Bank’s locations and/or customers. 

  • Bilingual proficiency appreciated.

LANGUAGE/COGNITIVE SKILLS:   

The person in this position frequently communicates with all departments and customers, about banking products and services, and therefore must be able to exchange accurate information in these cases. They will need to use judgment and discretion in decision making situations, interpret and follow all Bank policies and procedures, write/create reports, and business correspondence, (Main Street Bank’s standard language is English). As well as the ability to: 

Speak and effectively present/communicate information and respond to questions from customers, groups of managers, vendors, and other employees. 

  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

  • Read, analyze, and interpret various documents such as bank policies and procedures, , legal documents, and financial statements.

  • Regularly operate a computer for extended periods of time  

  • Specific vision abilities may be required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

  • Regular use of office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, fax machine, computer printer). 

Work Environment and Hazards 

  • Regularly move throughout the inside the Bank to access resources and individuals. 

  • Regular local travel for bank purposes and/or on behalf of the bank (i.e., customer site visits). 

  • The employee must be able to work schedules that meet the needs of the bank, which may include early morning, evening and/or weekend hours. 

  • It is a general office environment where the noise level is moderate.
