OVERVIEW:  The Boat Insurance Business Development Consultant is responsible for expanding Newcoast’s presence in the marine insurance market by identifying and cultivating strategic partnerships, generating leads, and driving revenue growth. The primary focus will be on deepening the relationship between Newcoast and affiliate Business Managers and General Managers as well as growing the insurance book of business through consistent communication, regular reporting, and creating incentives to drive additional business to Newcoast.  Secondarily, the BDC will build and maintain relationships with marine industry stakeholders, boat/yacht brokers, marine dealerships, marina customers, and individual boat owners, while staying updated on industry trends and regulations. The BDC will collaborate closely with underwriting and sales teams to tailor insurance solutions to meet the unique needs of Newcoast clients. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of the boating industry, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and a proven track record in Business Development and sales within the insurance sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

  1. Monitor/Improve Insurance Growth of Affiliate Retail Locations: Assessing location’s performance through monitoring of quotes and binds per month.  Making regular and consistent contact with each location and providing feedback to the underwriting / placement teams. Conduct training sessions for locations that require additional assistance.  Initiate incentive programs as needed.
  2. Communicate with Underwriting:  Providing consistent and constructive feedback to the underwriting/advisor team for areas of improvement.
  3. Identify New Business Opportunities:  Proactively scouting and analyzing potential areas for growth and development within the company's target markets, often through market research, data analysis, and industry trends.
  4. Develop/Maintain New Partnerships:  Establishing strategic alliances and collaborations with other marine businesses or organizations to expand the company's reach, enhance its offerings, or access new customer segments. 
  5. Generate Sales:  Prospecting, lead generation, and presenting sales pitches to potential clients or customers. Cultivating existing client database and cross-sell insurance products.  Participation and development of new business by attending major boat and yacht shows throughout the year.
  6. Business Plans:  Strategize, create, and execute on business plan for growth. 
  7. Research New Markets and Emerging Market Trends: Staying up to date with industry developments and identifying emerging market. Conducting market research, analyzing data, and understanding evolving customer preferences.
  8. Improve the Customer Experience:  Enhancing the customer journey, ensuring that clients have a positive and seamless experience when interacting with the company, from initial contact to post-sales support.

KEY RESULTS: 

  • Improve the insurance submission and hit ratio for all affiliate locations. 
  • Educate the Business Managers, General Managers, and Sales Associates on who Newcoast is and the benefits of utilizing Newcoast for all sales. 
  • Provide training to overcome objections as to why insurance isn’t being presented within each location. 
  • Ensures that all insurance and work products delivered to prospects and customers meet the high-quality standards of Newcoast. 
  • Provide regular reporting and communication of metrics to demonstrate success of production pipeline activities, individual book growth and overall performance. 
  • Demonstrate continued personal improvement via growth of skillsets in sales methodology, insurance knowledge and general marine industry knowledge. 
  • Identify areas of optimization and opportunities as well as provide informed recommendations for the insurance placement divisions and Newcoast leadership. 
  • Effective working relationships developed with other production team members, placement and service teams, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate improved alignment and processes between lead management and marketing automation solutions that lead to improved customer intelligence and a more seamless customer experience.

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Organized, structured, pro-active, results driven, meets deadlines, self-driven, collaborative, technically savvy. 
  • Five years or more experience in sales or various insurance roles with an excellent understanding of placement, coverages and insurance operations. 
  • Resident Property & Casualty agent license required in candidate’s home state with ability to add non-resident licenses where necessary. 
  • Experience and understanding of CRM systems, sales automation, analytics and other commonly used sales tools. 
  • Excellent understanding of how to identify sales opportunities and develop sales initiatives and plans. 
  • The ideal candidate is a passionate insurance advocate with broad understanding of insurance placement and how to maximize results across multiple lines of business. 
  • This person must have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to influence others and strong cross-functional leadership. 
  • The ideal candidate has experience and interest in recreational boating. 
  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation abilities. 
  • Good knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • CRM experience with Hubspot and/or Salesforce.
