GENERAL SUMMARY: The primary responsibilities of the Business Analyst is to gather and analyze business and technology requirements. The BA evaluates and tests systems to verify that they function according to specifications and standards.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analysis
- Consults with business customers to gather information about system needs and objectives, functions and features, and input and output requirements.
- Elicits requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, tasks and workflow analysis.
- Analyzes, defines, and documents requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.
- Critically evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
- Designs screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, reports, and interfaces with other systems.
- Applies business process reengineering techniques to redesign and improve business processes.
- Must be able to understand and communicate effectively with all levels of both business and technical team members.
Quality Assurance
- Creates test plans, test cases and test data.
- Tests software and services to compare to requirements and documentation.
- Identifies, analyzes, and documents defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in software program functions, outputs, online screens, and content.
- Performs simple SQL queries against databases to validate test results.
- Creates and executes automated test scripts using testing software applications.
- Coordinates testing by testers, consultants, business users and third parties.
- Creates test transactions and runs tests to find errors and confirm systems meet specifications.
Training and Support
- Supports Booth faculty, staff and students on the use of technology tools and applications.
- Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about tools and applications.
- Develops training materials and/or video content and provides training on the use of technology tools and applications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- A minimum of five years of recent related business analyst and testing experience required.
- Demonstrated experience with automated software testing tools and writing basic SQL queries preferred.
- Basic understanding of the project management and software development lifecycles required.
- Experience with Agile software development lifecycle required.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills required.
- Ability to handle multiple detailed tasks/projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines required.
- Ability to communicate technical ideas and concepts to non-technical audiences required.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow IT and other university policies regarding data security and protection required.
- Excellent analytical thinking, information gathering, problem solving, and persuasion skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty, and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods i.e., in person, email, phone required.
- Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach required.
