Bus Driver/Building Monitor
Full-Time/Hourly
Non-Exempt
DEPARTMENT/DIVISON
Recreation Department
REPORTS TO: Recreation Director
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Drive the bus to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to the time schedule. Performs other maintenance and custodial functions as required.
DESCRIPTION
- Drive a bus or van to pick up and deliver volunteers, take citizens on field trips, etc., throughout Oak Park and the surrounding areas; follow the schedule and other instructions as provided by the Director of Recreation.
- Clean and sanitize the inside of bus, follow all SMART and Department safety protocols and documentation of procedures.
- Availability to work holidays if needed, i.e., Fourth of July
- Complete all set-up requirements as assigned in a timely manner.
- Responsible for monitoring rental activities.
- Display confidence in resolving participant conflicts.
- Check in and check out students according to department policy.
- Deliver sign in sheets to class instructors prior to classes and collect sign in sheets after classes.
- Record number of people attending rental events or programs on the community center schedule sheet.
- Report any problems with rental groups to supervisor.
- Review rental paperwork in advance and clarify any renter requests with supervisor.
- Empty trash containers in the building and entry ways according to department policy.
- Clean restrooms and building as needed to provide a positive customer experience.
- Secure building, check all windows, doors, and bathrooms. Set the security alarm system.
- Participate in staff meetings, special events and professional development activities sponsored by the department; work cooperatively with other staff and promote teamwork.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Director related to the successful day-to-day operation of a comprehensive recreation department.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Familiarity with streets and locations in the City of Oak Park and surrounding area.
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with the public, especially the senior population, and other employees.
- Ability to control and provide services to people of all ages, youth through senior citizens.
- · Initiative and resourcefulness in problem resolution by looking up schedules and registrations and room setups.
- · Ability to work and communicate effectively with the public and other employees
- Must be physically able to perform work duties; including the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required
- High School Diploma, or completion of General Educational Development (GED)
- Experience in operating a bus or other heavy equipment.
- Possess a valid Michigan Chauffeur's license or CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
- · Initiative and resourcefulness in problem resolution by looking up schedules and registrations and room setups.
- · Ability to work and communicate effectively with the public and other employees
Preferred
- CPR and Red Cross training and/or certification.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
SALARY RANGE - Hourly minimum rate of $17.0719-$20.2301 (with consideration given to experience)
