Position Purpose
The Parks, Recreation, and Tourism (PRT) Bus Driver provides safe and efficient transportation of Summer Camp participants and staff to and from field trip locations based on a specified schedule. This is non-exempt seasonal temporary position for the period of May - August with no benefits.
Dates needed to drive: June 4, 6, 1 1, 13, 18, 20 ,25, and 27
July 7, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, and 30
August 1, 5, 6, 7,8 and 9
Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the Town.
- Follows all rules, policies, and procedures of the Town of Surf City and the PR&T department.
- Complies with all traffic laws and observes all mandatory safety regulations for school busses.
- Maintains discipline when campers are on the bus and reports undisciplined students to the Recreation Program Coordinator.
- Checks the bus before each operation for mechanical defects and keeps the bus clean at all times.
- Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Discharges campers only at authorized locations.
- Transports only authorized students.
- Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
- Stays current with state rules and regulations pertaining to driving and transporting students.
- Works a non-traditional work schedule dependent on the hours of the camps.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Qualifications & KSA's
Qualifications
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and the ability to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job such as those listed above.
Licenses and Professional Certifications
- Valid NC Commercial Driver License (CDL) with P endorsements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations; standard safety practices; and general mechanics of buses.
At least 1 year of experience transporting passengers in the operation of vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver's License, with passenger endorsement.
Skilled in reading maps and/or utilizing GPS directions; meeting the physical demands of the job; understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; and communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Ability to represent the Town in a professional and respectful manner while interacting with a diverse set of individuals within the workplace and the community.
