The City of Thousand Oaks is pleased to offer an opportunity to join the Facilities Division as a Building Maintenance Technician!
We are seeking a customer-focused, accountable, and results-oriented individual to conduct a variety of skilled Building Maintenance duties with competence and professionalism.
Primary responsibilities:
- Perform repair and maintenance of City buildings, facilities, and grounds (plumbing, basic electrical, carpentry, remodeling, painting, and a variety of craft work)
- Inspect and perform necessary repairs at assigned facilities for compliance with safety standards
- Install and repair piping for water and air conditioning lines
- Perform rough and finish carpentry for signs, decks, fences, gates, and related items
- Perform electrical repairs (replacing outlets, switches, lighting, and ballasts)
- Build and repair interior cabinetry (counters, cabinets, and shelves)
- Refinish furniture including stripping, staining, and varnishing
- Paint interior and exterior surfaces, equipment, and buildings; operate spray equipment and manual tools
- Perform concrete repairs; set rebar, pour, and finish concrete
- Install and repair flooring, baseboards, hardware, locks, and doors
- Complete routine documentation such as work orders, timesheets, credit card documentation, and incident reports
- Performs related duties as assigned
Note: This position is 100% on-site. Work Schedule – 9/80 (Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with alternating Mondays off). The position requires performing after-hours emergency work on an “as needed” basis and on-call duties which are rotated between staff.
Ideal Candidate
- Knowledge of safe work practices required to operate and maintain specialized tools and equipment
- Experience with water and wastewater supply and drainage, including galvanized, copper, and PVC piping, HVAC maintenance and repairs, electrical repairs
- Proficiency with operating standard office equipment including computers and software applications and reading and interpreting manuals, specifications, drawings, and blueprints,
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- 1+ years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings and facilities
- Pride in their personal work product, demonstrate initiative, and is safety conscious
- A professional and respectful demeanor when working with the public and internal staff
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more
- A valid Class C California driver’s license
