The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of Building Inspection Supervisor to fill one (1) vacancy in the Building and Safety Division of the Community and Economic Development Department. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.
Under general supervision, the Building Inspection Supervisor is to assign, review and participate in the enforcement of City building and housing regulations; to perform inspections, review plans and support the building permit counter operation; and to perform related duties as assigned.
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:- Attends meetings with the general public, design professionals, contractors, developers and other City staff and officials or outside agencies.
- Confer with and give information to owners, contractors, architects, engineers, etc. regarding inspections, building codes, and means and methods of construction.
- Review plans and specifications for proposed construction projects.
- Prepares enforcement correspondence and technical inspection reports.
- Prepares, organizes and presents training materials for the inspection process.
- Interprets building codes, standards and related ordinances.
- Assists with inspection reporting, statistics, inspection handouts, technical guidelines and related information as needed.
- Coordinates the support of the permit counter operation through the assignment of BUILDING INSPECTION staff.
- Oversees the use and maintenance of inspector vehicles and related mobile equipment.
- Researches new construction methods, technologies and materials.
- Performs complex inspection assignments and other inspections as needed.
- Oversees the completion and accuracy of assignments by the building inspectors and enforces policies and procedures.
- Responds to complaints regarding the violation of City building codes, ordinances and other related standards.
- Coordinates and assigns BUILDING INSPECTIONs and related activities.
- Coordinates inspection activities with other City Departments, Divisions and Sections and with outside agencies as needed.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates subordinate inspectors.
- Assists with special projects and assignments and provides support to the Assistant Building Official and Building Official.
- Trains and evaluates subordinate building inspectors with the proper use and operation of inspection technology, including but not limited to; mobile inspection applications, related equipment, computers and permit tracking software.
- Coordinates the response of building inspectors and performs inspections when building related emergencies arise.
- Trains subordinate building inspectors in accordance with disaster preparedness and response policies and procedures.
Experience: Four years of progressive combination BUILDING INSPECTION experience performing residential, multi-family and commercial inspections for a public agency, including at least one year of supervisory experience overseeing the BUILDING INSPECTIONs process, or a closely related field.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of an appropriate, valid class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License
- Possession of an Inspector's Certificate as a Combination Inspector from the International Code Council (ICC).
- Possession of the CASp (Certified Access Specialist) certification from the State of California, Division of the State Architect
