Building Commissioner

The City of Webster Groves is accepting applications for the Building Commissioner position. The Building Commissioner performs a variety of tasks in the administration and enforcement of new construction, property maintenance and nuisance regulations.
The primary responsibilities are as the chief inspector, plans examiner, zoning officer and code enforcement officer; oversees the enforcement of property maintenance ordinances, and ensures all building construction activities within the City are properly inspected and are in compliance with City ordinances to ensure the general health, safety and welfare of the public within the City of Webster Groves. The Building Commissioner provides direct supervision to plan reviewers, building inspectors, code enforcement officers, and permit technicians in the performance of their duties. They supervise the preparation and maintenance of records, plans, inspections, letters and reports prepared or used in connection with building inspections and plan reviews. The Building Commissioner consults with city staff, applicants, owners, architects, engineers and other interested parties regarding City processes for project approval and completion as well as serves as contact for various programs including, but not limited to, Floodplain Management Program, and MSD Phase II Storm Water Program.
Requirements:
· Graduation from a four (4) year college with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture Construction Technology or related field.
· Minimum of eight (8) years increasingly responsible experience in inspection, plan review, and code enforcement.
· An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered by the City.
· Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience.
· The successful candidate must be certified as a Certified Building Official or be able to obtain certification within eighteen (18) months of employment.
Compensation and Benefits:
Minimum of salary range is $71,620.80, with additional consideration for qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits, including LAGERS pension program at L-12 level, tuition reimbursement and scholarship program through Webster University.
