Job Summary:

Performs complex housekeeping work which involves cleaning and caring for residential buildings and student unions. Ensures maintenance of custodial equipment and orders supplies. Assists in supervising Housekeepers and contractors to meet department cleaning needs. Communicates issues and solutions to supervisor. Maintains quality control records using a software platform.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervises (and performs) the cleaning of residential housing and student unions.
  • Schedules and/or performs dusting, mopping, sweeping, floor buffing, vacuuming, polishing furniture, and shampooing/spot treating carpets/furniture.
  • Schedules and/or performs restroom sanitizing and cleaning, washing out waste receptacles, replenishing paper supplies, cleaning windows, stoves, refrigerators, air vents, and other surfaces.
  • Monitors and assists with supply orders and records, equipment maintenance requirements, and building repairs needed.
  • Advises Operations Supervisor of special assignments or changes in work routine, assist with inspections of day-to-day duties of Housekeeper I.
  • Assists vendors providing services for make ready cleaning tasks, quick turn services, carpet cleaning and window services.
  • Participates in interviews, training, and scheduling of staff and vendors.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent with one (1) experience in a cleaning service position.
  • Ability to effectively execute oral and written instruction in English.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years’ experience in housekeeping work.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Fluent in Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, skill in the use of custodial chemicals and the operation of housekeeping equipment.
  • Must have knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safety procedures in their everyday use.
  • Ability to schedule work assignments, and monitor progress, for timeliness and quality.
Other Requirements :
  • Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others.
  • Responds to on call emergencies before/during/after hours of operation, this includes (but not limited to): Fires, electrical outages, floods, and icy conditions.
  • Must be able to identify the problem, plan for the appropriate action, communicate severity and fix the problem.
  • Must be able to drive a university vehicle.
Working Conditions:
  • Conditions do involve exposure to all weather elements.
  • Must be able to work off of ladders, step-stools and scaffolding.
  • Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements: biohazards, dust, dirt, confined spaces, extreme cold or hot and any weather condition.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull up to 25 lbs. and bend, stand, sit, kneel, and squat.
