Job Description Summary
This position provides mentorship and leadership to current Broward College Broward UP Promise Neighborhoods students by assessing their academic needs and guiding them to appropriate resources they need to be successful in college. The Peer Facilitator utilizes group and individualized strategies to support Broward UP Neighborhoods students to be successful in their academic and vocational pursuits, addressing common academic, financial, cultural, and other barriers to college success.
This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans' Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Certain service members may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in the employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.

Minimum Education:
  • High School education or an equivalent required.

Minimum Experience/Training:
  • Must comply with required background and fingerprint screening

Essential Functions:
  • Daily 50%: Provides mentorship and leadership to Broward UP Promise Neighborhoods students by supporting their academic needs and guiding them to appropriate resources.
  • Daily -20%: Develops and maintains a peer relationship focused on helping Broward UP Promise Neighborhoods students make a smooth transition, acclimate to campus, and establish a sense of belonging.
  • Weekly - 10%: Serve as a resource for Broward UP Promise Neighborhoods students by helping them identify and use appropriate campus services.
  • Weekly - 10% Scheduling and participating in events and meetings with Broward UP Promise Neighborhoods students.
  • Monthly- 20% Complete peer mentor training within first two months of employment
  • Daily- 5%: Attends professional development training and required meetings.
  • As Needed- 5%: Performs mentoring and leadership related duties as assigned.
